I witnessed someone running out of Harbor Freight with something big in a cart. I had my phone in my hand and took photos of them and their license plate.
They were in the car beside me.
Gave them to the store manager. Doubt anything came of it.

luannski : Many stores do not allow their employees to stop them. Paying is purely voluntary.

Spork : And if they're caught, they'll get a low bail and be out on the streets an hour later.

CaffeineFree : which is good, because holding someone long term for a petty theft sounds like a waste of county resources.

ZMAN : Unless of course it was your store and your family they're stealing from.

I think it is more now. People are walking out with big ticket items. Stores also used to stop people. I guess they could post notices saying your picture will be taken and posted is you steal, but then that opens then for a lawsuit.
