MissAmericanPie : I don't think people who commit crimes like this give a **** if the consequences are hard or not. They will do it anyway. Nobody who does this stupid **** thinks they will be caught so they don't even consider the consequences.
Yep chased him till he crashed into an innocent person again. Yes again. It's disgusting how they keep calling ot victimless, and yet the carnage that it produces leaves scars wide and far.
ZMAN : You might be right they don't think about consequences. BUT, if they really are some, that might be a wake up call they need. Theft from retail stores is not a big deal if there's only an instance here or there. But last year, according to Capital One, there was 86.6 BILLION dollars in retail theft losses.. Hardly a small problem, collectively.
MissAmericanPie : ... It's why the death penalty is ineffective as a deterrent.
buffaloglenn : It does deter one from murdering again, wouldn't it?

Humble PD Catches Suspected Thief After Auto and Foot Pursuit On the evening of May 5th Humble PD was advised of a male stealing merchandise from Macy's inside Deerbrook Mall. The Suspect quickly exited the store, got into his vehicle and fled the parking lot of the mall. Loss prevention employees provided a detailed description of the vehicle and license plate making it possible for our Night Shift A officers to quickly locate the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was attempted but the suspect refused to stop, sped off and began to evade. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle until it became disabled when the suspect struck another vehicle. The suspect then began to flee on foot, jumping off the freeway and running into a nearby neighborhood. The female officer that was pursuing the suspect was undeterred by having to jump off the freeway or chasing the suspect into the neighborhood by herself. It didn't take long for her to catch up to the suspect and put him in custody. Backup officers arrived shortly after and assisted in getting the suspect back to the scene. The total amount of the theft was approximately $1,500.00. The suspect is now facing multiple charges. p2c.humblepolice.com /p2c/jailinmates.asp x
They steal because it's lucrative. They steal from Macys or Ulta, grab a catalytic converter or a vehicle, and sell or pawn it all. IF they get caught they get $100 bond and they are out there in a few hours stealing again. They make a whole bunch of money doing it. And everything we buy costs more because of it.
MissAmericanPie : Harsher consequences might stop a few, but it's important to realize that criminals, and especially violent criminals, don't think like you and I do. They often either feel they won't get caught, or simply don't care if they do get caught. It's why the death penalty is ineffective as a deterrent.
buffaloglenn : It's true they don't likely care about anything but themselves but the death penalty isn't ineffective if it gets them off the street and that keeps them from hurting other people.
MissAmericanPie : I agree; my point was the death penalty is ineffective as a deterrent. It is effective as a punishment.
Hardly a small problem, collectively.
CaffeineFree : And Ulta in Humble....seems like they get hit every week!
