For the 2023-2024 school year, Humble ISD had 33 students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Each year, approximately 1.5 million students across the United States apply to ultimately be a National Merit Scholarship recipient. This is based on their academic performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Corporation Qualifying Test. Out of this initial pool, approximately 50,000 students across the nation who took the qualifying PSAT exam earned National Merit Commended Scholars.

The top 1% of students in the United States who take the qualifying test are recognized as National Merit Semifinalists and are considered for National Merit Scholarships. For the 2024 National Merit Competition year, Humble ISD had seven students recognized as National Merit Semifinalists and then went on to be named National Merit Finalists.

Kingwood High School’s Thomas Avery, Cody Welborn and Rohan Yelunder; Kingwood Park High School’s Alice Early and Summer Creek High School’s Zachary Houlton, Matthew Parks and Lukas Stibrich earned National Merit Finalists honors.

Additionally, for the 2024 National Merit Competition year, Humble ISD had 26 students recognized as National Merit Commended Scholars, who are in the top 3% of students in the nation in terms of their achievement on the PSAT.
