1836 : A good number of homeless people are addicts/alcoholics which you said is a crime. According to Heather her husband does not remove them.

calliecat : I lost one of my "good" containers this morning because he even gave one some cupcakes I made him along with a couple of bottles of water. He's such an ******, am I right?! Giving the less fortunate homemade cupcakes (that I put extra love in) & cold water. And following department protocol to boot?! The nerve of the guy! Someone called in a wellness check on a guy laying under a tree with his dog in some woods because they thought HE was also dead in this heat. Guy said he was okay, wasn't committing any crimes, just trying to stay cool & not overdo it in this heat so husband offered him the food & bottled water he takes in a cooler in his car FOR the homeless & his own partners in the summer heat. You're right. He should've taken him AND the dog to jail.

calliecat : That's not what she said at all, and it's not what I said. I said public intoxication is a crime, being an addict or alcoholic is not a crime. She said if they are not committing a crime the police have no legal authority to remove them.

Heathur : but many homeless encampments have been "closed". Those people were removed for no other reason than being homeless.

BooBear : Absolutely. That are on private property. Even a city can CTW someone, it just takes a little more for the city.

CocoBagogo1 : I realize homelessness and begging are real problems. It's not a good time to be walking in your area and see someone who appears dead.
However the homelessness and begging are chronic issues that anre not acute in nature. and seeing someone unconscious in this kind of heat? I'd call 911 bc that is nothing more than an immediate health crisis. Priorities.

calliecat : I don't think that's true anymore. Some have been evicted from their homes, some are hiding from the law, some suffer mental illness and are hiding from society, some may have lost their identification, and yes, some struggle with addiction.

There was a woman who moved to Houston from another state. Upon arriving here, within days, she lost all of her belongings, to include her personal identification (SSN card, birth certificate, and ID). You can do nothing in this country without those three important documents. I think she spent a couple of years homeless until she was able to get her affairs in order. Someone was kind enough to let her use their address, because that is also needed. Can you imagine being in a situation like that and no one is willing to help you?

1836 : is trespassing a crime?

BooBear : Yes. A CTW is a criminal trespass warning that is issued as a warning when someone trespasses on private property. If the person returns somewhere they've got a CTW on, they are arrested when they return.

1836 : is trespassing a crime?

BooBear : Absolutely, and it typically takes place on private property, which has already been addressed. It's kind of hard to trespass people from unrestricted public property

eighteen: that's ridiculous. Bless your heart.

CocoBagogo1 : Sweetie, bless your heart. People are killed just driving. The least of my concerns is someone suffering from heat exhaustion.

1836 : So unless you actually see the person with a bottle or needle. You cannot remove them even if they are passed out from let's say because they are drunk?

SSN card, birth certificate, and ID

eighteen : They should have been able to get those documents replaced in less than a month. I just ordered my Birth Cert and got it in 2 weeks.
