I heard the Kingwood YMCA was not encouraging to seniors looking to enroll in fitness programs. I want to let those of you who might also be interested, that I contacted them this week about a enrolling in one of their fitness programs, the person I talked with was so nice, enrolled me, and sent a class schedule. I found it will cost me nothing thru a Silvers Sneakers Program covered by my insurance. Can't wait to get started; I am thinking of a muscle strength improvement program, and would like senior water exercise if it was not at 8:30am. I am not an early morning person. Any of you tried this, and what was your favorite exercise group?

Texasdaughter : You have gained my interest. That said, many changes coming with medicare in 26 - none of them good. Doing away with many preferred plans and I'd be willing to bet Silver sneakers too. Mine is doing away with free over the counter meds. First it was 125 bi quarterly then 75 then 50 now 25. Next it will be done away with altogether. 😡

I wish my insurance had the Silver Sneakers program. I'd be at the Y every day.

Do you really even like going to the gym? I dont.

ZMAN : I don't either. I think I might enjoy it if I had a workout buddy to keep me motivated to go every day.

Texasdaughter : That's a story you tell yourself. To be an early morning person all you have to do is wake up early. its pretty simple.

ZMAN : I wake up early but you def want to keep your distance till the coffee kicks in...

We enjoyed YMCA for awhile, BUT....my fault, I ALWAYS need to see some immediate results...ie, I move my arms, while raking leaves......I bend and pickup....nature s debris................I climb trees to lop off dead branches........................sorry... at end of the day...yeah...what are the results? LOL

Strength training is very very very important esp for seniors.

I retired from a career in fitness during the pandemic after 25 years- my favorite class to teach was cycle but I also taught strength training, personal training,STEP, dance aerobics, senior classes and a walking program. I preferred teaching in the morning- sometimes at 5 AM- those members were always hard core. I hated teaching the evening classes because I was tired by then.

Now I dont belong to a gym- I have everything in my home and outdoors is my playground.
The Y in Kingwood is a class act- I never taught there ( though I was asked to) but I did have a membership there so I could work out in peace( no one knew me there).
Enjoy those classes and I think you will really enjoy the morning classes- you will feel so good for the rest of the day!!

Texasdaughter :
I go to the Y on Silver Sneakers 5 times a week in the early afternoon. You can swim anytime outside of classes, just show up with a towel. The whole crew is friendly and helpful. Usually not that busy on week days. There are all ages and for senior stuff ask for Ginger.
