asasolid2r : I'm just going off my own experience: I had a charge nurse hand me paperwork to sign immediately after a stroke, with half my body paralyzed. That was a bit inconvenient, considering it was the side I write with. I said I would like a family member to help me read through it, and I was told I was a "grown *** man" and didn't need help. They also coincidentally "lost" my files when I went to another facility for care, and the new facility had to threaten legal action in order to obtain them. I've watched them misdiagnose family friends-one was left crippled and later died because of mishandling. It's anecdotal on my part, but no, I am not a fan. And I haven't even touched on the financial side of things. My advice is to make sure you have witnesses and document every interaction. That alone could have saved me four years of recovery..

Sophos2 : sorry for your experience

It's settled now. I am going to be closer to better medical facilities soon enough. I just cringe at HCA.

Sophos2 : no problem, I was just pointing out that others had experiences there that were more positive than you described.
I'm sure they have. I'm just pointing out they also have the reputation they do because of experiences like mine. It's not a new reputation either.

Sophos2 : I have to agree. My daughter had a seizure and fell face first on a tile floor. After getting there by ambulance, the absolute most important thing to them was getting a chest xray, then a pregnancy test. It was during the height of covid. The only time we actually saw a doctor was when he came in to tell us we can go home. No skull xray or ctscan to check for anything broken or injured, they didn't even wipe blood from her face. Then my mother spent a few days in there. The doctors care was "ok" but I had to complain about 1 particular nurse. When she heard that and what I complained about, pushing fluids through an obvious busted iv, yelling me that the next shift can change it out, she actually came into my mother's room and confronted me asking if i said that she wasnt giving proper care to my mother. I said no. The charge nurse had to remove her from the room she was so angry. I wouldn't take my enemies dog there. FYI you can request what hospital an ambulance takes you to and unless there is a medical reason like major trauma or that hospital is the only one equipped to handle a certain emergency they will take you there. My mother's subsequent ambulance trips, she was taken to Methodist in the woodlands even though HCA was within walking distance.
I'm aware that you can request another hospital from the ambulance. Funny thing was we tried that once when my Mother fell and the EMT told us that this was closer and they'd transfer her after they dropped her at HCA. Never happened. She was charged out of the wazoo for minimal care, misdiagnosed, and when her insurance wouldn't cover her sent home. We told them they were out of network and her insurance wouldn't cover it at the start.
Are you taking about Herman Memmorial?
They diagnosed my heart attack and took great care of me. I would never go to Kingwood Hospital. You can't get out of there with your gall bladder as that seems to be their go to diagnosis.

No. Memorial Hermann is amazing. Kingwood Hospital is HCA owned.

Sophos2 : sorry. My FYI was more a General statement. A lot of people don't realize that they have a choice even when being taken by ambulance.
No problem. It's good to inform others that it's a choice.
I'll take Memorial Herman any day over HCA. My preference is St. Luke's in the Woodlands or the Medical Center. Last New Year's Eve was a nightmare at KW HCA. My husband was put on a gurney in the hallway for seven hours. They did nothing for him. Our insurance refused to pay anything. We had to protest and file a complaint to get them to pay. That's not the only bad experience we have had there.
