Greenspoint Mall -$150 Million Renovation!

MissAmericanPie: it's at the old mall location, but it will no longer be a mall. It will be an industrial park for businesses, transportation companies, warehouses, and more ;those make good money. There will supposedly be a gym on the property, but no retail stores or consumer shopping.

LittleTexas : I have never been to that mall because when I moved here 29 years ago it already had a very bad reputation as being Gunspoint. I think making it an industrial complex may be a good thing for the area.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA: … as long as they have 24/7 guards. Good source of EJ's ( extra jobs) for law enforcement.

the mall itself, is gone. only the structure remains. due to the crime in the area, stores began leaving the area, and eventually there were only 7 businesses open there; not worth the daily power bill, or the taxes paid, so they fully closed GP, a few years ago. They will tear down the structure we knew as they mall, itself, and build full, new construction.

LittleTexas : I hope it thrives. I worked in that area for several years. Glad I don't now. There was a single story office building across our parking lot. Someone stole the AC unit off their roof! That thing was HUGE! Had to take heavy equipment. When we checked our cameras, their roof was out of frame. Terrible area.

It was sad to think the area has gone downhill , as it has Had a work friend who lived in one of the 1 br apts that were first built there, about 20 years ago. It was a nice complex...then. Now, I would not let her live there for a Day. This will bring jobs into the area, but it is Not a safe area, day Or night. This is what the new build will look like:

In the mid 80s, retailers were desperate to have a location in Greenspoint Mall. Then the HCSO was shot in the mall shopping lot in the early 90s, and customer traffic tanked. When The Woodlands Mall opened in the mid 90s, a big chunk of business went north. Wards, Penney's, and Sears closed, which meant that much of the mall's square footage was empty. When the major department stores close, many of the in-line national chains go dark, too. Greenspoint slowly became a ghost mall. There is even a YouTube video about ghost malls that has a segment on the mall.

I had the first comment on this thread that said they need a police station there.
Because as I have heard it called, it's " GUNSPOINT"!!!!

ExCTGuyInTX: yes that's been its nickname for at least the last 20 years. Hopefully this can bring it out of that. I'm sure they will not only keep the police station there. They will also have extra duty officers there for Security, as well. Its a neccessity .

LittleTexas : The link you posted clearly says there will be retail space there. There is already a gym at that mall. The gym might be the only thing left there but, they have a full parking lot everyday.
