Former HCSO Sergeant Pleads Guilty to 5 Federal Counts in Online Child Exploitation CaseJohn Frederick Black, 46, a former Harris County Sheriff's Office sergeant, pleaded guilty to five counts of attempted transfer of obscene material to minors, according to federal prosecutors. Court records state that Black contacted an undercover Leon County Sheriff's Office detective during a January 2026 operation in Tallahassee, Florida. Believing the detective was a 13-year-old child, Black engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent obscene photos and videos of himself to the undercover detective. Black is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle on December 3rd, 2026, at 2 PM. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison on each count.The guilty plea is part of the current federal court record. Sentencing has not yet occurred.
