Maver1ck : Maver1ck : Everyone went up. It has a bunch of steps involved to figure it out now. Your zone really doesn't mean what it used to for rates

Jt88888888 : No everyone did not. People who flooded in the past have had their rates drop. People who didn't flood had theirs rise.

NeverPayRetail : There is no such thing as private food insurance because they outlawed then. It's alll through FEMA unfortunately. If you pay it through your insurance company, it's still through FEMA.

StormChaser : Private does exist. For a while, it was only in excess of the NFIP, but now you can get just private in many places. The plans are often better and cheaper, BUT the companies can go out of business. If you have an issue you're going through them and you can't win really and maybe could beg the state to help, but in the NFIP they have an office just to help policyholders, general adjusters to help, and your Congressman/Senator can even get involved.

For some people, it makes sense, just not for most yet. With that said flood insurance through the NFIP is very cheap for most for what you are getting in coverage

MissAmericanPie : For some yes, but it isn't based on them having flooded or not. Very few had rates drops too

"You don't get more high-risk coverage for flooding than Galveston Island, but Yu found flood insurance rates there decreased an average of 41%"

Several here have mentioned flood zones like X, C, etc. However, my latest bill no longer has a zone listed. I used to have a "preferred risk policy," and was listed as zone X. We have never flooded, and our street never even held water during Harvey or any other flood event, yet our premiums have increased quite a bit over the last 3 years. Does anyone else have a flood zone listed on their latest bill?
