Essential Houston restaurants This was an interesting read to me and I agree with several. I thought what was interesting how Houston has such a strong Vietnamese food scene and how it blends with other cultures. What would be your top 5? I'm thinking of mine now but this is hard! www.chron.com/food/a rticle/houstons-most -essential-restauran ts-viral-212507

Well anything Mexican would be off my list! Not a fan of Tex-Mex!

In no particular order Ninfa's on Navigation
Taste of Texas
Kim Son
FireCraft bbq or Burns Original bbq
Pappas Seafood I based mine on where I would take someone visiting Houston. Years ago, Pappas seafood would have clearly been replaced by Monument Inn.

Vn'Wich is excellent! I highly recommend it. The food always tastes fresh and the staff is super friendly.

I like their shaking beef, beef vermicelli, and their spring rolls. They also serve fried cream cheese puffs, which are super tasty and addictive.
They have different Vietnamese teas, which my sister says are really good but I've never tried them.

The only one on the article's top 5 list that I have eaten at is Ninfa's on Navigation. I'll agree that it's essential because it's Houston famous and it's been here for over 50 years.

I don't find the new location of Monument Inn to be in such an attractive spot to merit the drive. I remember my parents would treat guests to their all you can eat. Unsure if they still offer all you can eat but I would prefer a smaller quantity of excellent broiled seafood now. Also, as my family ages (especially the out of towners), proximity of Pappas is a plus.
