WTF : You got that right! This is one of Gexa's new "low" plan! Look at those numbers. The usage at 500, 1000 and 2000 average price per kWh…pfffft! 10.9c? Nope, it's 19.3c before you get the $50 off bs.. you have to add the 15.6 and the 3.7 to get the real rate..the fact that they knock off $50 is proof the fees are high and they could be lower. Instead they do all those BS credits.

MissAmericanPie : Trust me, my husband reads every last single word, and he completely understands. We signed on with Jaksa for three months at eight cents, hoping prices would go down during that short term they did not. We are now paying $.10 but it's $.10 from the 1st kW to the last kilowatt so that's a good thing.

cbear : We are with Discount Power. We were with them before and when our contract was up in the spring they offered a good deal with a 3 year contract and we took it because I don't believe it is going to go down. It varies sometimes less but never over $0.109 inclusive.

Electric bills Ugh. I got mine today. The billing cycle ended over a week ago and my bill was still $285.00 for a 2800 Sq ft house. 😬 AND we have decent rate! Almost afraid to open it next month!

StormChaser : Mine was $228 for the service month ending 6/23. 3700 sq ft with pool, but only two of us in the house most of the time. Our rate is about 8.3 cents per KwHr plus Centerpoint delivery fees.

The next month, with the hotter temps, should have us around $300 based on usage and current rate.

We keep the AC at 77 during the day, down to 75 at 8:00 pm and then 72 at night.

We actually qualify for low income aid, but since we use balanced billing, even though 1 bill might reach $300, we rarely pay more than $100 a month, and we havent been in default yet.

WTF : That's insane. I guess the big difference is #1 you live in a newer home and #2 (probably the biggest) you live alone and you are gone the hottest part of the day. Someone is always here because of my mother in law. We keep the AC at 74° day and night. No pool and we have double insulated windows. Our biggest killer is probably that we only have one unit for a 2-story house. We are down a ton compared to what they recommend for this size house but the previous owner was a cheap bastard and only put 1 unit unit in. To add a second unit is $$$$$$ so we're going to put in a split system instead.

StormChaser :
I keep mine at 74 as well. I guess my how is insulated very well.
Yeah, 2-story houses really need 2 units. Some houses in my neighborhood even have 3.

Highest bill since I've ever lived in this house (24 years)! My contract expired so I was at higher rate. Searching for new provider. I have 2500 sq ft, one story. Double windows. Lots of high ceilings.

Toidboid : I would suggest a short term plan until December. The rates are the lowest from December until March so.....if you can just through till then...might be better. Good luck!

Just got my electric notification in the mail today ... was really surprised it was just $200. Single story with a pool, 2240 sq ft. and keep my thermostat at 74 - night and day. I'm sure my water bill will be higher.

StormChaser : Mine was higher-not that high. We have a fixed amount we pay for up to 999 kWh. Then a specific rate per kWh up to 1,999 and another rate per kWh over 2,000. We've never gone over 2,000 kWh. Having the fixed bill amount makes all the difference, for us. We know what our bill is going to be and, during the summer, know it will increase by those kWh about 1,000. Plus, several years back we had our insulation redone and get our a/c and heating systems checked in the spring and fall.

We had a $500 a/c bill one time with Reliant. That's when I discovered there were all these electricity providers out there and that you could change providers whenever you liked (or when that contract was up).
