#msg6021106Cbear : I had Gexa and they got so high that it went to heritage power and they were good for a year and now this year it's been outrageous
Highest we've ever had since we moved here in 1998. It is crazy. I need a part time job just to pay for this month!
In reference to high utility bills, the cold hard fact is Texas touts itself as a pro business, low regulatory state. The practical result of that is there's little to no guardrails on utility companies to keep prices within the range of reason. Secondly, since most of the state is not connected to the national grid, if crap hits the fan, as in an unusual weather event, we can't easily borrow power from other states. So, utility companies literally have us over a barrel. As they'll continue to charge us what they damn well please.

It was more like a typical August! For rates, go to powertochoose.org, especially if you are on a monthly contract or if your plan is about to expire. Stay away from plans with big usage credits... Those are basically designed to pick your pocket. Finally... If you can live with it, turn your AC up. We use a very thin blanket in the summer and the AC is on 75 at night. My summer bills are about $200 (1800 kWh).
#msg6021190LemonEye : And on power to choose.org is that where you have to go every month to check to see who's the cheapest. I just want to sign with one company I don't want tob be looking at all the time.

#msg6021197sweetie : We missed your update last week we the Cowgirls screwed up the game in the last minute, cashed in a nice sized bet with the Ravens.
Ours was $323. But we have been lowering the AC to 66 every night to sleep better. We also have a more efficient AC we had installed about 3 years ago, new windows all around the house, and a new front door that seals better.

Our highest here in Arizona was $550 for the hottest month. We were expecting a $650 bill but it went down to $450. I keep it higher during the day because we are in and out. Lol, go outside and back in and it's cold lol. At night we like to keep it at 72- 73. Last night I got up and dropped it to 70, I was hot and only use a light throw. Of course my dh is under a big comforter lol.
I don't even have it running right now. I only open the shutters on the shady side.

#msg6021035My electric bill is still crazy high. Is everyone else going through this too? And what company do you all use?
We use Octopus.....just started the service in August. Both my sons use same service and recommended it. Currently, $378/mo .........we use two A/C units... the Temp set at 73F. 2870 Sq Ft of cooled space. We use laundry washer/elec dryer every day. We have two refrigerators.....gotta keep the beer cold. And we have a pool...filter pump currently runs 8-10 hours per day.
Cbear, buffaloglenn and justanirishgirl reacted I had a 2 year contract with AE Texas that is up in January. Last year it was not nearly so high. I will start shopping for a new provider though soon.
