Drought update 👉 Harris County -Even though we haven't seen much rain this summer, we're still in a fairly good position here in Harris County as far as drought conditions go. All the rainfall we received Jan-May (specifically spring time) REALLY helped us from being in a bad spot. Harris County Conditions | Drought.gov
share.google/L0X6srU 7ct2Wi3xpP👉 Stats: 100% of Harris County is in the "Abnormally Dry" category even though this is our 12th driest August on record (132 years which is when drought record recording began) The only category below (or better) than 'Abnormally Dry' is the 'No drought' category. The areas labeled in white to our NE (Polk, Hardin, Tyler, plus parts of Montgomery, Jefferson, Houston and liberty counties) have no drought conditions even though this is their 3rd driest August in 132 years! (Since record keeping began)

👉 Areas with severe drought conditions:As far as the Panhandle & parts of N Texas, they are in a MAJOR drought situation. (Also large portions of Oklahoma, New Mexico & Colorado as well)🚨 That area is experiencing their 2nd driest year to date over the past 132 YEARS and their 26th driest August in that same time period. Note: Childress, TX has issued a state disaster declaration and is under a boil water notice until further notice. The federal government has been shipping in bottled water to residents. This is due to extreme heat, high ground temperatures and ongoing drought conditions causing disinfectants in the water system to evaporate, resulting in low disinfectant residuals. 😬 Childress declares local state of disaster after citywide boil water notice 👇

👉 Winter weather predictions for SE Texas: Winter predictions here in SE Texas look to be colder & wetter than average due to the ongoing "Super El Niño" with a higher than average probability of severe weather. I would not rule out outbreaks of severe weather in Dec/Jan here in SE Texas. 🌪While snow chances in SE TX are increased due to the colder temps & high rain chances, it actually looks like Oklahoma east to the Carolinas has a better chance of significant snow totals compared to the Gulf area.
