beadweaver : You missed it again. Promoting a walk out based on this event would be a highly political move. Not their place on any level. They have current event studies where BOTH sides can be included instead of just the one you support.
I agree. My child goes to school for an education. There will be consequences if my child chooses to skip school.

Honestly I don't know what I would do. Protests can get dicey at times. I don't have a problem with you keeping him home.

It's difficult to know with absolute certainty what to do in this situation, because for me this is all new. Parenting a teenager is hard enough without having to make these type of decisions. I don't want to make the decision for him, and at this point I think I will let him go in, and I will just hope for the best. It is a teaching and learning lesson, for both of us, I think.

@CatalinaKitKat :
Are these young adults really protesting for the cause or is it just something they are doing because they are seeing the protests in the news? I think that is the question you have to ask.

True, and I think that is a good and fair question to ask. For my son, I think he was seeking my opinion on how I would feel about it if he walks out and joins in the protest. I think it's a great question for any parent to ask their school aged children right now. Thank you!

Also a fair and good point. I can only speak for myself when I say that I will not hold the school or district responsible for anything that happens outside of it. Actions have consequences, and I'll take accountability for my own child's actions, and he will too, if there are any. I just found the letter itself to be a bit threatening.

I get and support protesting. We did it in the late 60s and all thru the 70s. But in this case, instead of disrupting school, why not schedule a massive protest this weekend. Bring both parents and students. Show the world the entire family believes and supports something you feel passionate about. Other than that its just a reason to push peer pressure, yell about something you really dont fully grasp and get out of school.
