mm4731 : Oh, for Kingwood. True. I thought you meant HS Students in general.
I'd think that by high school age they don't need mommy to hold them back from something as benign as this.
1836 and ZMAN reacted MissAmericanPie : I can read, so missed nothing. Like I said, no need to miss class. Impromptu field trip. Support the students rights, teach them that standing up for injustice is as important as standing for justice. Teaching moments aren't a scheduled event all the time. My journalism teacher would have gladly used it as a current event lesson. Who, what, where and when. Have the kids write essays on that.
They have current event studies where BOTH sides can be included instead of just the one you support.

I think a parent can be concerned about their child's safety at any age.
I believe you missed it. And why not allow them the opportunity to express themselves and to voice their opinions on this government overreaction. No citizens should be executed on our TV sets. No citizens should be shoved to the ground for expressing their displeasure of said overreach. No masked men should be able to smash in own door with zero cause. There are laws, due process, and btw, they should know exactly who they are looking for. Otherwise, you too can have your door smashed, your family member drug from their or your home and taken to God knows where. So before you decide for everyone else, worry about your own. When you say, that won't happen to me and mine, think again. Don't think because you have dts, you'll be protected. Don't think anyone will come help you. For the grace of God there go I.
All this administration does is cause hate, dysfunction, and chaos. That is not the American way we use to do things. And by the way, no criminal is working a minimum wage job. Most they are targeting are here legally. Showing up to there immigration hearing and being arrested for following the laws set before them. Don't try to get into a pissing match with me. I'm a second generation immigrant. My grandfather took 9 ******* trips to bring his family to America. Mousolini, Bautista, and Hitler, all were evil human beings. That was drilled into me. It was also drilled into me that I am an American of Irish Sicilian descent.
: You missed it again. Promoting a walk out based on this event would be a highly political move.
I don't normally post in the FL, but this does focus on a topic of much (heated) discussion. I was just curious about how others feel about the consequences mentioned in the letter. I received this last night from Humble ISD, and it doesn't just affect KPark but all of the high schools in our district. My DS mentioned that he was aware that there will be a walkout at his school this week. I'm trying to decide if I should just keep him home because I'm sure that if other students start leaving, he will walk out too. Not out of solidarity for the subject, but just because of peer pressure and if his friends are doing it, he will too, although I doubt he would be disruptive about it. February 3, 2026 Dear Kingwood Park High School Families, There have been reports of student walkouts happening related to immigration issues in the news. Some of our students have mentioned plans to walk out of school this week. Humble ISD is writing to ensure families understand safety and disciplinary consequences related to this issue. First, student safety is our top priority. When students are in school, they are supervised and protected. Leaving the building during the school day poses safety risks, which is why we strongly encourage students to stay in school. Our law enforcement partners have told us that students who congregate on private property may be subject to having criminal charges filed against them. Second, while students have rights under the First Amendment, courts have ruled that these rights do not include disrupting school operations, such as by walking out to protest. Students are expected to attend their classes throughout the day. Students who disrupt the campus by participating in a mass walkout will receive disciplinary consequences including campus-based discipline, suspension (in-school or out-of-school), or placement at DAEP, depending upon the severity of the disruption. Students who are absent without permission from class are considered truant and will receive unexcused absences for any classes that they miss. Students should remember that attendance and discipline affect eligibility for exam exemptions. Families are asked to emphasize with their children that students are expected to stay in school and that there are consequences for leaving or disrupting the learning environment. Everyone has a right to express viewpoints, but students have a responsibility to be in school.
No masked men should be able to smash in own door with zero cause. There
Neither should there be picking up immigrants who are leaving court proceedings. Or picking up kids from school. Or picking up workers after they finish shift.
Targeted enforcement means what, exactly?
It better mean going after "the worst of the worst" and NO MORE.
Students Walk Out Across the Country to Protest ICE
Most of these kids will be elegible (18+) to vote in the 2028 election
Teachers here in Arizona marched with their students. A few got arrested but that's normal. I'm happy the teachers not only allowed them the opportunity to express themselves and stood with them. You are so right about them coming to voting age. What better way to teach them the importance of their vote and the consequences when they get it wrong.
I think a parent can be concerned about their child's safety at any age.

Ok, fair enough and good point. I will add, though, that I think the potential for violence can happen anywhere. Even if it is just Kingwood, TX.
