rocklady2024 : Rather than *****ing about their issue anonymously online they are making it known in person. Does it changes minds, hard to say. But atleast it is a right we still have.

mutton :
I've always been more curious about the anti-protestors. The ones that show up and don't actually have anything to say except to mock the protestors. It fascinates me that people find it a waste of time to protest but not a waste of time to be a random ******. I mean, if you don't share the same view the best thing to do is ignore it. The point of protest is to draw attention to the issue so creating more of a scene draws more attention to the original cause and you also end up looking like the unreasonable side.

I agree that it is very important to protest peacefully. I think that has the potential to be taken more seriously, and the key to prevent any violence from breaking out in a crowd.

mutton : true but step one foot in the line of them doing their job could get you justifiably shot so why do they chance it? Makes no sense does it? Protest responsibly or not at allPlease keep the forums civil. Gray box info   Details+Dispute

Ruger5 : She was questioning the ones here in KW. As for the violence possibility here is pretty nil. I cannot say I would attend one where there is a chance for violence.

trump voters bloody hands but notice not one thing said of the countless murders against Americans at the hands of the thugs biden flew in by the thousands that ice is going after.* This is a General chat discussion. This post was gray boxed because it was likely a Fastlane topic in a General Chat thread. Gray box details   Dispute

Ruger5 : so are they protesting the voters? That seems dumb since it will change or bring attention to anything. Thats not protesting. Its just stating an opinion.

mutton :
I've been to many protests as an observer. When I've seen people approach protesters to ask questions, I've moved closer to hear the exchange. What I consistently heard was people interrupting each other, and attempting to talk louder, signaling in my mind that they do not want to hear or consider opposing views.

In person discussion seems to focus on exchanging emotional responses, and avoids more nuanced conversation that serious issues deserve. Some of us are not interested in the emotion of the issue. I don't learn much from emotionally charged expressions other than I'm dealing with emotionally charged people.

I walked around once in Kingwood just reading the variety of signs. I stayed polite and just observed the behavior and messaging.

There was an abundance of inflammatory expressions, making it more polarizing than informative. I learn more about what people with grievances want on forums like this when nobody can shout over someone else, there's no other external noise, no one interrupts someone to shut them down, and people can converse with follow up questions.

The weakness of forums like this is we can't read body language, and are more likely to wrongly infer tone. In person I can tell when someone is worked up. With them I feel comfortable attempting to de-escalate. It sometimes works. In forums like this it's more difficult to know and results in failing to "hear" what they are trying to say can take conversations in unintended directions quickly. One person can feel like it's a pleasant exchange of points of view, with a mutual tolerance of different forms of expression (to include inelegant intended humor without recognizing personal triggers) and then recognize the other person's threshold has been crossed.

From my perspective, seeing people in person during a modern protest environment does nothing to advance the conversation or better understand the purpose.

SummerSneeze :
My Dad had that happen when he came back after his time over. He went voluntarily. He complained less about being spit on. He understood people were ****. He didn't appreciate it but he understood it. The thing that **** him off is being given a blanket, donut, and a bill for the blanket and donut from the Red Cross on the flight back. He had a beef with the Red Cross that he took to the grave with him. He never collected his medals. He said he didn't want them and he definitely had a few coming to him. He died a while ago. The closer he got to the end the more he shared. He never complained about protests. He said it is a right as an American and how could he complain about something he fought for the right to do. He said a Marine pledges to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and those who exercise the freedoms it provides.

Those signs look very professional. And a t-shirt. Are those available on Amazon? Is there a web site that you can purchase them from? I know you can do a lot from home but those look a little better than homemade. Almost like there was an organization providing them. Hmm......
