If its about blaming (and defending the castle policy) let's blame the PARENTS of the child, not the child that should be under the supervision of adults and is fighting for his life. At that age one can distinguish between good and bad. But the parents mark the ultimate rules. We don't know the specifics about if the child was extremely rebel and untameable or not. But the fault is ultimately on their parents / tutors. I am deeply sorry for slightly disagreeing and voicing my opinion on this one.
Actually, I agree. I simply will not go along with the hypocrisy. Kingwood, prank, in "high crime" area deadly force terror inducing activity.

ForestFinds : One would hope all parties involved might pause to consider the consequences of their actions. But hope, as always, is a fragile thing. People rarely seek accountability. No, they prefer the comfort of absolution, blind to the role they so clearly played in the chaos they now decry.

donnatella : "neighborhood game" when I was growing up was....playing Red Rover, Ghost in the graveyard etc games and riding bikes with the neighbor kids. Glad that I grew up in that era.
petronoluem : I THINK a 10 year old should Not be on the streets at 11pm, playing Dangerous games, on private property. I NEVER think a child should be shot, EVER. The CD is one of the laws that May be called into consideration, re this case.

It' sad that a child was injured. But seriously, "kid was playing a game" and "individual stepped out of a house and shot him"? Media hype at its most atrocious. The way it's written would have the reader believe the home occupant put candy on the front porch and was hiding behind a curtain waiting for a stray child. All the assumptions, what-ifs, and biased media leanings do not a news story make. What are the specifics? Did the child simply ring a doorbell or kick the **** out of the door? Was this a one-time deal or had it been ongoing? Do the child and/or the child's parents know the resident? Has there been neighborhood friction? At 10 years of age, some kids appear to be fully grown adults. Was the kid wearing concealment clothing like a hoody or mask? Did the kid say anything to the individual when the door opened? What's the homeowner's history? Age? Firearm training? Had they previous been victimized? Is there a history of home invasions in the neighborhood? What was the lighting environment. Could the individual that opened the door have been afraid for his life? Are there any racial/cultural overtones? So, to summarize: Kid rang doorbell or banged on door. Occupant opened door to investigate. Kid got shot. (Nowhere does it say "in the back" by the way). The kid's in the hospital. The shooter is apparently in custody - but "not charged". Anything more is hearsay and imagination.

You are correct,it is not against the law to knock on a door. Banging excessively with the intent to scare the bejeezus out of someone is a FAFO situation. You can't know the intent of the individual knocking on your door. 10:00PM, no lights on in the house, safety first. My family before them.
