Fredflinstone : A good bit of my original opinion changed as new info emerged, especially the fact that he sat waiting for them, chased and shot him in the back as they were running. I still maintain that the parents were partially responsible for the kid roaming at night, and kid as well, given they were also kicking doors, multiple times, throughout the neighborhood and not just ringing the bell and running.

Sisyphus : Felony murder is not minimal. Seriously it's an open and shut case. The judge even said, pending ongoing evidence discovery, charges will likely be upgraded.

If anyone else bears any fault, beyond any reasonable doubt is why a DA would offer a minimal plea. DA's know sewers are inhabited by Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Fredflinstone : You will never convince that person that the child and his family bear some fault. In fact, but for their actions, the child would be in school right now.

MissAmericanPie : No. A hung jury is what the defense knows is possible. So does the DA. Trials and retrials can get crazy expensive.
