Probably does serve as a deterrent, but should only happen after they have been convicted. What if this guy is found not guilty or the charges get dropped? Or one of any other of the dozens (or hundreds) of people who are treated the same way? Is that ok? Is that what we want? I dont.

ComingInHot : Or it could be to embarass the tar out of them so they wont do it again. Those jails per Precinct 4 deputys have revolving doors. They catch them and then see them on the street 24-48;hours later doing the same stuff. Paying a $10 bail, and back to another dui.

PeterBee :
If thats true, and I accept your representation, then the law should be changed. If someone is caught driving drunk, there should be a stiff penalty. Once they are found guilty, I have no problem with their image being made public. It does seem weak to me for the constable to be putting out these kinds of press releases. I mean, they didnt bust a major human trafficking ring or something. All they did was stop one drunk driver. We should expect better, IMO.

I don't know. Punative action prior to conviction does not seem right to me. Then again, even an arrest would put my CPA license and my FAA medical cert (can't use my pilot certificate without it) at risk. But I understand the reasons for those.

But then, I love looking though the mugshots when they do a prostitution sting, always hoping to see a former boss or something. Pure Schadenfreude on my part. My sister had her boss show up in one a few years ago. Office gossip was fun there for a while. He was terminated. Would suck if he was innocent but he wasn't. Legal consequences were less than the public humiliation and the job loss. That is a deterrent.

ComingInHot : Look, they can't look for someone without their photo. He is most likely a repeat offender. We have to have thicker skins to get through this life. There has to be consequences and one of them is showing their faces. Just the way it is.

ComingInHot : He caused an accident. Probably has no license and needs to dry out. $100 is too low , didn't steal a candy bar.

If they are looking for someone, they have likely not been charged. That again changes the equation. My point has been that is someone has been arrested and charged with a crime, BUT NOT CONVICTED, they should still get the benefit of the doubt and not have their pic splashed across social media.

For the record, police officers are indeed often in charge of social media in their PIO ("Public Information Officer") role. Chad, who worked for me for a long time and quit to become a police officer, does social media and website work now, in addition to his regular police officer duties (or at least did last time I talked to him).

Joe : They have police officers who have their TCOLE licenses who fill am admin position and are not on patrol. They have various responsibilities, one of which is handling social media, but C4 does not have a social media only department nor a social media Sgt.
