Current radar Current radar SAT @ 440AM. A line of broken thunderstorms is currently off to our west. (Moving east) Right now, the heaviest part of the line looks like it will be south of I-10 & near the Huntsville area.
I know the forecast has been a mess this week but we should see multiple rounds of heavy thunderstorms today & esp tonight in and around SE Texas. A few of these cells could be on the strong to severe side with gusty winds & hail so keep that in mind if you're out & about. Tonight (Sat night) looks to give us the greatest chance for training thunderstorms. (Repeating over the same areas)
I'll post radar updates in this thread as the day goes on. ........ SCW weekend forecast. I'll update this when/if they do. 👉 Saturday night through Monday - *If we're going to get smacked by rainfall, Saturday evening through Memorial Day would be the timeframe I'd be watching closest.
*A rather vigorous disturbance in the middle and upper atmosphere is going to swing into the Houston area on Saturday evening.
*This disturbance should provide the trigger necessary to get storms off and running.
*It's impossible to really say exactly how things are going to setup right now, but expect increasing thunderstorm chances after about 4 PM on Saturday into Saturday night across the Houston area.
*We'll then need to watch for repeated development of storms and the risk for flash flooding, including in areas that have not seen much rain so far.
*With moisture in the atmosphere much higher than normal, any storms will be capable of dropping 2 to 4 inches of rain in an hour or so.
*Any "training" or repeating thunderstorms over the same area means those totals could add up quickly, hence the concern for some localized flooding and our Stage 2 flood alert. More to come on this throughout the weekend as we get more clarity on timing and locations impacted.

Also - I do not see this as a widespread flooding event. But areas along the coast will have issues because some of those areas have already picked up 13+ inches of rainfall this week.

5:46AM The severe thunderstorm warning has been allowed to expire for now. 40+ mph gusts & small hail are still possible with this line. These storms are moving but not very fast. A quick 1-2" of rainfall is likely if they hold.

Galveston is probably very quiet this weekend with the rain and the beaches looking like this in the image. A whale has been spotted which is interesting as well.
