MissAmericanPie :
Don't lock up? Why?
I'm so crazy about locks if I go out front, I make sure my back door is closed and locked. Especially if any contractors, etc are in the area or around my home. I won't get caught at my front door while someone goes in the back. I do a check before going to sleep. Three locks on each door, rechecked when I pass to go pee in the night.
We had critter visitors last night. From the sounds and the evidence in our yard, we had an opossum pass through. I know every sound including before the package is up my drive. I know the sound and routine of my neighbor's vehicles. I don't know how or why, I just do. Maybe all those years living solo instilled weird habits, that stuck lol.

MissAmericanPie : I can't even imagine someone not locking the door these days. When I was a kid we never did but that was in the 60's.

ILoveCookies : I grew up in Houston in the 70's, and we had both sets of dead bolts locked and stainless steel burglar bars over the windows. My dad didn't mess around with security.

So I'm guessing they didn't have an alarm or doorbell camera either???

Maybe a neighbor has a system that caught something…

beadweaver : I have no idea. But there's plenty that don't. I see it all the time. Same with vehicles.

buffaloglenn :
I couldn't live in a home with burglar bars on my windows. I told my dh, I no longer want an art shop. When he asked me why, I only had one response. I don't want it to look like a jail. I don't want to lock myself in every day. Nor do I want to be a sitting duck for easy pickings.
The real solution is to insist on being tough of crime. No plea deals and long sentences with hard labor. Let them get too busy growing food, raising meat, stitching their own damn clothes. Maybe being too tired from surviving will wake them up to, enough of the stupid ****.
Life is hard enough to put up with stupid ****.

grinchy : Nope. Maybe a neighbor has some footage but both came face to face with him so a description is on file with the cops. You don't get better info than eye witness accounts. He was on foot so there was no car.

buffaloglenn : They don't lock doors…unfortunately You'd be surprised how many clients I have that don't. I'm financial about it. Even if they tell me they don't lock doors, I DO and I tell them so.

MissAmericanPie : Yeah, I know some Kingwood folks that don't lock their doors. So weird to me. We're far from life in the 80s.

ILoveCookies : I have to admit- I'm not the best at making sure everything is locked up here in Gilbert. Front door goes into the front courtyard with a locked gate- I'm good at that because I'm afraid the dogs could get out. One side gate to the back is always locked. Our fences here are 7 foot cinder block- could be scaled but not easily. The 2 sliding glass doors and the French door all open to a back patio- one of the sliders is my bedroom and the dogs sleep with us. I try to remember to check but haven't gotten into the routine. The windows are all secured and most would be hard to climb into- the 10 foot walls make it so that the windows sit higher in the wall. I feel like I'm in a compound

Back in KW - I was diligent- windows were tothe ground in many rooms and the doors easily accessible even if we locked the gate. I hope he is caught soon

eighteen :
I know. And I wonder if you went down an average block and checked doors, how many would be unlocked.
I had a client recently who was going to the Kentucky Derby and needed pet care and they didn't even HAVE a key to their home. Had to get one made for me before they left.

MissAmericanPie : I cannot comfortably walk into my home knowing I left it unsecured.

I check all 3 of my door locks every night and must check each one at least 3 times before heading to bed. My bed mate is a .357 revolver and I know how to use it!
