TXhomegirl : On our 33 wedding anniversary my husband was going to buy me a convertible. I told him I'd rather have a pool. Cost wasn't that different 20 years ago. We love our pool and still use it a lot. I swim laps about every other day when it's warm enough. And we start heating it around spring break and again some in the fall. The only change I would make is to make the hot tub 8 feet instead of 6 feet. My husband does the upkeep himself and says it's not that hard.
We changed it to pebble tec a few years ago and have had to have the heater replaced. So yes it does have some upkeep.

TXhomegirl : They don't add much value and are expensive to repair and maintain. It's a BAD investment. Unless I was flush with money, I'd never do it bc you're pitching money into the commode and it only matters if losing it doesn't effect you.

MissAmericanPie : This is gospel. Building a pool is an insane waste of money these days. Especially now that the prices have gone through the roof after Covid when everyone wanted one since we were all sitting at home. I think prices have somewhat regulated but you will never recoup the cost a new build pool install so it is most definitely a luxury item that you really can't justify the cost of other than it is nice to get in when it is nuclear hot outside. Plus, you have the upkeep. However, with that being said, I will never own a home in Houston without a pool. I just buy homes with them already in and then make sure everything checks before I buy. I let some other sucker with a wife that absolutely has to have one who made that dumb decision to build one and then decides to sell the house.

TXhomegirl : Yes! Get a Spa it is wonderful in the winter. Sunbathe nude and he might get the hint that you want a pool. Permits are a headache so do your research on pool companies.

TXhomegirl : The Work. The Cost: Repairs, The Water Bill!! Everyone wants to come swim, and they 'use' your towels, and never bring them back. When you sell your home, if the buyer doesnt really Want a pool, it won't increase your home sale price price. I liked it, but did not Love it, like I thought I would.

Well you all sound like party poopersc for the most part. We paid off our house this year. We probably wouldn't need much of a loan. I would want something terribly glamorous. You all may have destroyed my dream😂. I'm kidding
