Do you have kids or grandkids ? Or dogs ? They make pools so much fun ! If you're going thru the hassle of getting a pool , absolutely get a hot tub!

RedSox1SheHer : Agreed!

mutton : but of its a 30k add on really?

TXhomegirl :
Our neighbors put in a pool with a spa. It was more than $70K start to finish. It was inground.
@tumu had one put in a few years ago and I forgot what he said it cost $50K.
There are costs associated with pool ownership like maintenance, extra electricity and on dry spells water.

If I had a do over...I would have the following: rectangular.much easier to find a cover for winter and that helps keep it clean.just leaf blow debris off the cover. 5 feet deep max. no deep end or diving board. I am in my hot tub nightly weather permitting..I just don't heat it in the summer so it's my "baby pool". You can always get a pool as described above and purchase an above ground hot tub. IF there is a problem, no major expense like sandblasting concrete and it can go with you if you move. Best of luck!

How do I convince my husband to put in a pool. Give me pros and cons. He actually said we could get quotes next year! Super excited!! We have a pretty big backyard that I hate to mow. Do I really need a hot tub?

TXhomegirl : We had one put in, it's 18,500 gallons no hot tub…… I figured Texas is hot enough as it is so I didn't care about a hot tub. I used Platinum Pools, has a rock waterfall and chlorinator. I paid $52k

I spend maybe 30 minutes/week on it. The smaller the pool the less time/maintenance. A friend of mine has a 50,000 gallon pool and it's a whole other beast, takes him forever to brush it and he spends double what I do on chemicals

Shock, brush add chlorine tabs throughout the week….. I had all the trees removed so there really isn't much cleaning involved. Chlorine is super expensive, 2.5 gallon bucket is like $200 and I'll need 2 buckets to get me through the summer

Average monthly maintenance cost outside of chlorine tabs is maybe $40 for shock an acid. I don't really track it but it's not that expensive. Especially non summer months because you barely use chlorine, hot summers eat through the chlorine like crazy

My pump went out a few weeks ago and that was $650. I don't regret doing it but it's not used near as much as it should be. My daughter and grand baby moved out and I really did it mostly for the grand baby

You could also look into a Spool. I think that they are adorable and great for just lounging.

RedSox1SheHer : -You have a hot tub brought in, you have to do weekly chemical tests or even semi weekly tests. Theyre nice to have but after awhile they break down. Been there , done that, a 9 x 12 swim spa. I had mine for about 10 years.

8 grand a year for maintenance

RJP59 : That's very high. In 2022 it cost us $2,373.74 for maintenance ($2,008.80 in 2021, $1,813.80 in 2020). I would say that our IG 15x30 costs us about another $120 for the entire season for water.
So far for the first 6 months in 2023 it's $946.08.

cbear : I agree on the rectangle shape, I have a lagoon but lagoon was what fit best in the back 40

RJP59 : We've never spent that much except the year we replastered. I budget 100/ month and that covers, chemicals, cleaning with enough left over to replace the pumps every few years. If you average the time out ( chemicals, cleaning and pump replacement) it's about 10 minutes a day. It's not hard to do.
