They aren't necessarily illegal. They are typically relatively new to either the area or the country. Almost all are low income. Most have limited to no English language skills. Very few would likely qualify for a traditional bank or finance company mortgage. These properties are almost all financed by the developer at exhorbitant interest rates, with ridiculous up front non refundable fees as well. The developer is in a win/win scenario, all loaded on the backs of the most vulnerable amongst us. For many if not most of these families, it's their only chance to get into home ownership. They take almost all the money that they have managed to scrape together and hand it over to this parasite developer. The developer knows that the people have a good chance of defaulting on the loan. If they pay it, the developer wins because he's getting paid the exhorbitant interest rate. If they default, he keeps the down payment the people made along with the assorted fees he charged at the initial transaction, and simply starts the process over again on the same piece of property with the next vulnerable family that comes along. Most of these families are good hard working people just trying to gain a toe hold here and build a future for their families. The evil component of this very difficult situation are the parasitic developers. They have no regard at all for the people they are exploiting. They have no regard for the community they are exploiting. They couldn't care less about the impact on schools, emergency services, etc for the surrounding community. They only care about raking in money hand over fist as quickly as they can, and at that they are doing a spectacular job. I have had my landscaper now for 13 years. He's a one man show. He does a great job, and he's a good, honorable, decent and hard working man. He bought a property there and currently lives there. One day we sat and he told me all about how it works. The stories he told me about equally good people losing all they had were heartbreaking. Yes, they knew going in that they might not be able to carry the note. Of course they knew, and that's on them. However after working as hard as most of them work and getting nowhere, who can blame them for taking the chance to move forward in life for their families? This feeling of hope and desperation that these people hold is the very thing that this parasite developer capitalizes on. Don't vilify the people. The problem is the developer, not the people. EDIT - I should add that my landscaper and his family are legal residents, for whatever that is worth. He's lived here for over 20 years and speaks pretty good English. I know for some of you that's an important point.
These housing development practices would be an interesting story for an investigative reporter, sending in an undercover family to document the process.
Ticagro : Perfectly said. I condensed it . You explained it clearly. Thank you. That developer is a despicable person. Some of the homes the plumbing goes out quickly and they end up having to build outhouses. They are built so cheaply. And I cannot believe there is even an inspector that would inspect these houses and pass some of them.
Reivax : Your not really suggesting that these border invader, illegal aliens are purchasing property, are you? Get real!
Anyone renting or mortgaging any property is paying taxes in some way. That's like saying people who rent an apartment don't pay taxes. It's rolled into the cost of their monthly rent. And these peoples' situation is nothing to envy. My sister used to teach a bunch of kids that lived in the neighborhoods. A lot of them didn't have basic utilities. The buses wouldn't go into the neighborhoods because the streets weren't paved so they had to walk very long distances to get to the bus stop at the front of the neighborhood. The foreclosure rate is insane. reduceflooding.com/2 020/11/30/flood-of-f oreclosures-hundreds -to-lose-colony

Blame the developers also for the rain and flood water that is diverted from the New Caney, Cleveland, Porter areas that come through KW. (If we ever have rain again ?)
