Heard good things about it. Hope to go there soon. Wish Sophie was still alive. She loved going to the breweries.

Is taking your kids to a brewery a Southern thing?
I know things have changed but I thought it was illegal for underage kids to be in a bar?

luannski : They are all catered to families it seems which is great. Great example is Back Pew. It has a playground and large field to hang out.

But is it really? It seems to me that it encourages children to think excessive drinking is "normal" . Kind of like subliminal advertising or brainwashing like the TV commercials with all the 30 somethings having a great time in bars drinking.
Surely there are other places to have fun with your kids.

luannski: children can be in an open area like a brewery, but they cannot sit up at the bar proper, where there are barstools. Being somewhere with your parents when they are having a beer is not promoting alcoholism anymore than it is when a parent has a margarita while a child is having a taco at a Mexican place. The simple parenting explanation is that there are adult things and there are children things and alcohol is something that is done over 21. I personally do not think that somewhere like this brewery that has room for everyone to attend, promotes alcohol at all. These days, I would worry a lot more about what they were looking at on the Internet…. it is also not strictly a southern thing as I have found this concept to be popular all over the world. everywhere you go has some kind of boundaries. You just need to make sure your children know what they are.

I don't know many people who drink excessively during the day at a brewery. These have vibes similar to pubs in England and some beer gardens in Germany. It's very common to let the kids run around and play while adults sit and chat with a drink or two. It's actually really nice.

PatrickStar: I completely agree with you this as well said. if you're teaching them anything and I don't think that you are, you are showing them that she can occasionally enjoy an alcoholic beverage and reasonable way and not go overboard. Teaching Limits is important,

luannski : With all due respect, I find that nonsense. Have you been to one of these numerous breweries? Especially the larger ones like Karback and St. Arnolds. It's almost no more than any restaurant. Try one. I think you have a misconception of these places.

True and you know what i didnt see in Germany? Drunk teenagers! I was shocked to see them buy beer in pubs but they'd buy a beer chat with their friends and leave. As a matter of fact i never saw unruly teens anywhere.
One exception- the week of Carnivale- lol everyone was drinking but no one ever got out of hand

Labslady : I guess coming from a tea- totaling family and having an alcoholic MIL I'm just over cautious. I just remember the parent/ neighbors that did drink waited until after he kids went to bed to have a glass of wine or a beer.

It's not a bar. Very different vibe. And kids are not served alcohol. A lot of people that go do not drink.
I will say, I saw a kids bday party at backpew and thought that a little odd. The party was more for the parents I think. But to each their own.
I used to let my girls taste my drinks when they were young. Neither drink beer at all as adults and rarely drink mixed drinks.

I guess I never thought about it like that. We didn't have breweries ( or didn't go to them) when our kids were little. We didn't drink when we went to restaurants ( hubs was an EMT in his younger years- saw enough damage from DUIs) and yes if we were going to enjoy an adult beverage it was after the kids went to bed. No real reason except how fun is bath time and bed time when you've had a glass of wine 🤣.
When we first moved to TX I don't remember there being kids at a brewery- it was adults. I was always the DD because I don't like beer. I guess it wasn't until Back Pew that I started seeing kids- but then again we didn't go to breweries that often.
In Europe the drinking culture is different- they just do it- even at lunch. There are a lot of pubs and beer gardens but I never saw anyone falling down drunk. I've heard that OctoberFest in Munich gets crazy but you couldn't pay me a million bucks to go there

Labslady: shoot, Oktoberfest in New Braunfels is Not for kids, either, much less those in Germany, or the Fest in the streets of Cincinnati! Those are Meant to be alcohol excessive. They can be fun, but Do get rowdy and dont see kids, at those. The pubs and breweries Mean to focus on the whole family, as they Know their customers, in general, are Not the " get skunk faced" crowd.

what are the hours and days your open?

Some of the younger knitters in the Houston guild have their charity knits at breweries. They sit outside under the Pavillion and drink while they knit. I don't drink, it's too hot, and I hate music played so loud you can't hear your friends when you try to talk so I don't go.
