billcherie2 : We have been eating salads every day. I don't buy bagged salads though. I mix it between romaine and iceberg. I also mix in spinach, shredded carrots, radish, bell peppers, celery, purple cabbage, and more. We haven't had any issues. We have bought from Walmart on Northpark, both HEB and both Kroger.
I lived dangerously and ate a salad at Carrabbas today.
Wiseowl : Last Tuesday I was out running errands and got three tacos from Taco Bell. They were better than usual. The lettuce was so fresh and crispy! Simply delicious.
Any body else avoiding eating lettuce ? I've become mildly ill with gastro issues twice in the last two weeks and I bought packaged salads at Little K and Little Walmart.
billcherie2 : Ok. Read through this thread and feel the need to share some basic biology. Cyclospora isn't a bacteria, but rather a microscopic, single-celled parasite that hitches a ride on fresh, raw produce like berries, cilantro, and lettuce. When ingested through contaminated food or water, it causes an unpleasant intestinal infection marked by explosive watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, and severe fatigue. It can take between a week to three for effects to take hold. Because it is a more complex organism than bacteria, standard food washes and everyday antibiotics won't touch it-it requires a specific sulfa-based antibiotic to clear up, and it can only be neutralized in your kitchen by thoroughly cooking your food or scrubbing it under heavy running water. This not a new issue but, for 'reasons' the area of the you know what that oversaw preventing it getting into our food supply was shuttered. Isn't science fun. 😬
No salads at our house. We'll, lettuce salads anyway.

bigla : It's pretty good I think, but no amount of good gut health is going to stop a protozoa or amoeba from making me sick as a dog. I don't want to be sick as a dog.
