Kingwood.com asked 2 questions so I will give my answer:Does it bother you to look at graffiti?   No, I am not really bothered to look at it as long as it is not offensive in nature. I am not answering if I like it in my neighborhood like in the tunnels or the fact that it might cost a property owner to paint over it. But that wasn't what was asked. I see an artistic style in most graffiti, you see it a lot at the train crossings as the cars go down the tracks. The choice of colors and brush or paint strokes is usually pretty good. Or do you think it's just art?  Yes, I do think it is art. Here is a dictionary definition: Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and
imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture,
producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or
emotional power. Perhaps Kingwood.com should have asked one more question: Is Graffiti vandalism?  To that I would say yes only if it appeared on private or public property without permission of the owner. Would I rather see this type of graffiti or just a plain blank wall? If the owner wants it and gave permission I have no problem and like it. It can brighten things up and like I said as long as the graffiti isn't offensive or some kind of gang message I'm ok with it. 4951

I think it is another quality of life issue and having that crap around degrades the area.  You want to do that do it on your own wall. 4951

it pisses off conservatives.

EvanCarroll: How is this even remotely a political issue? So by your own statement, Conservatives dislike graffiti and Liberals love it? Good to know...Hillary Clinton Pro Vandal!!!

Atascocita High School is trying something new this year. They are allowing Seniors who have cars to custom paint their parking place. I saw it yesterday and it looked pretty cool and very creative. But it really isn't different from graffiti except that it is sanctioned by the administration of the school. This is cave art from prehistoric times. I guess it's graffiti, too! 4951

Not really...it's in the presentation. Poor presentation can make it go from art to trash in a hurry. Good art tends to be preserved....bet that gets painted over, again, bc of presentation. 4951

>> The main point is that it's illegal

@WskyTngoFxtrt: Actually that is not even remotely the point. The point was to share ones opinion concerning whether or not graffiti can be looked at as art. Graffiti is often commissioned or accepted once done. Regardless is it art or isn't it?

CantStandTex: The point is it is GRAFFITI.  There is some commissioned graffiti art on some of the downtown buildings and it can look better on those buildings than the graffiti mess that taggers do on our roads, over/under passes, public buildings & private businesses. If the 'graffiti artist' has permission from the owner of the place being 'decorated', then it would be art - otherwise it's a criminal tagger spreading his nasty graffiti that costs the taxpayers or the business owners money to clean up.  In the City of Houston a business owner can be fined for the tagger's trash - it costs money to clean up the tagging and if it's not done in a timely manner, it will cost fines also. Shame that the crap that the criminal tagger forces businesses to spend money they don't necessarily have. www.houstontx.gov/gr affiti/

Chrisinkingwood: I hadn't heard about that. About how many spaces are done, in other words, is it worth taking a kid of 8 years over there to go take a gander or maybe not yet?

Graffit is trash, as it usually is done in an attempt to vandalize property and essentially "trash" the place. They intestinal lay draw attention to themselves and leave their tagger name, and just plain don't care. Street art, is another story. While it mirrors graffiti, most street art is sanctioned by wherever they are working, and even if it's not, while still wrong, is designed to draw attention to the artwork itself. Street artist may or may not leave their names, but the main focus is the art itself and getting people to understand the underlying message behind it. I believe that is indeed art, although I'd rather it all be done legally. 4951

Not really

podunk: We will have to agree to disagree on this one. Just because someone "presents" something as art does not make it pretty. I can find art in public and trash in a gallery.

Ok, I read the story that the OP linked to and it says that Zachary Price or Zed is 22 and charged with a State Jail Felony, the penalty listed elsewhere is 180 days to 2 years in a state jail and/or a fine of not more than $10,000.To bad, he could have put his artistic skills to work in a more productive and legal way. A felony stays with you for life. 4951
