Back in the olden days: If you were walking around with a rifle or shotgun the only person who would question you was a game warden, to see if you had a hunting license. It had to be valid for whatever season it was, and the weapon had to be valid for that type of game.

SarcasmWins : Perhaps when Kingwood was unincorporated. As part of Houston though, and with all the development around Kingwood, I don't think anyone stopped walking Kingwood streets with a rifle today would be mistaken for a hunter.

sweetie : They have the right, however I don't support that behavior.

golfshot :
Same here. I view it as similar to sidewalk theatrics that protesters do. They view it almost exclusively as an exhibition of their rights, while others view it as an unnecessary nuisance for public attention.

I can also acknowledge that some of the firearms exhibitionists have a heightened awareness of potential risks, and believe that the exhibition of their weapon can serve as a deterrent. Even during some of my law enforcement years, several colleagues preferred their weapons to be visible through a "concealing" garment. I viewed that as being more fearful than protective, based on their justification for doing it.

Spork :
I totally agree with all your comments. As long as citizens obey the laws and not all the theatrics.

By the way I laughed my *** off with one of your posts yesterday.

Long Guns
Texas law does not specifically put restrictions on who can carry a long gun such as a rifle or shotgun. However, some people are prohibited from owning or possessing any firearm by law. See the Owning and Possessing section of this research guide for more information.
