WTF : That new-ish KDCer sure deletes a lot of his/her posts.

HollyHobby : All the time. Especially if you disagree with her. 4951

HollyHobby : I agree with you. It is a tragedy for everyone involved. My kids are grown but I really don't know the right answer in this situation.

sillystring : One thing I do know is that most people (not all) who have something like this happen are never the same. Joy is often gone from their lives; it will be difficult for them to ever hold jobs, be financially self-sufficient, or be successful in relationships. I have a friend who accidentally hit a child that darted into the street, between parked cars, and the child died. My friend had not been drinking, and was under the speed limit, but the guilt he had from that accident affected him the rest of his life. It altered him as a person. 4951

buffaloglenn : But when someone dies, the guilty party needs to pay. Otherwise, all you have to do is say " I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it". All of the sorries don't bring the victims back.

WTF : I don't disagree; the laws have to be upheld and he will have to serve whatever sentence the jury or judge decides. And that sentence will not bring the victims back either. Or will a 10 million dollar lawsuit. 4951

IzzysMommy : Okay -- playing devil's advocate here for a second, so don't hurt me. LOL "Held accountable" -- what exactly is that? Being sued for a million dollars? Spending an appropriate amount of time in prison? Having one's life ruined FOREVER due to a stupid and tragic decision? I guess now that I have kids who are in this age range, I have a lot of compassion for young people who make life-altering decisions, ones that have the potential to ruin their lives forever and possibly lead to addictions and suicide. I'm not making any excuses, just compassion as I'm not sure what the truly RIGHT thing is to do. My husband had a young cousin who had an underage girlfriend. He was 18 or 19, she was 17. They had sex, her dad found out, and the young man spent years in a hard-core prison. He has NEVER been the same and has struggled with addictions and in every other way possible. That father felt he was doing the RIGHT thing and felt justified. I'm sure he felt he was holding the boy accountable.

HollyHobby : I'm not sure what others want but I would say something like a heartfelt apology from the kid, maybe seeing him talk with others at various schools about his situation and the tragic consequences that came from his decision would be helpful. Kids do this crap all the time, his ended badly for him, and especially the 2 girls he killed. I would hope he feels terrible and remorseful, but we don't get to see that. When his parents go out and hire a high priced lawyer it indicates that they are trying to save his *** - no one wants to see that. 4951

I don't know the kid but I sympathize for him and the girls families. I could have easily been in the same situation when I was 17, so could most people on this message board, judges and the district attorney 4951

TexasOma : Awe you think he's not haunted enough? I can honestly say no one cares what your opinion on the situation is. You think you're empathetic but it's easy to empathize with parents of a lost child. The parents forgave him. The girls were drunk too. They were all making bad decisions and they are paying in different ways. You not empathizing with a 17 year old who is dealing with guilt and the grief of losing two of his best friends, isn't impressing anyone.

motherofmykids : Uhhhh...I do get it! Our son was the stupid *** who died because of a drunk driver......HIMSELF!!!!!

Fortunately no one else was injured and he died instantly! But it was his stupid decision to drink and get behind the wheel!

I feel sad & sorry for his 2 children, now adults. I am still sad that he's not in our lives, but it was his stupid choice to drink and drive and put other lives at risk!

Yes, I do get it! I have no sympathy for him and his poor decisions that killed his 2 friends! 4951

Real sad deal but the parents must be loaded to have Chip Lewis as an attorney, that is a high profile attorney, the likes who get athletes off DWIs and plea it down to reckless driving. This option not available to everyday citizens. He has been mum the whole time, likely at attorney request.

Steven H : It's my understanding the parents sold a lot of their belongings to obtain money for the case and Jagger got a job. 4951

He is an adult now, nothing will bring back the girls and his life will never be the same.
We need to know because this is our community and important to us.
No matter how long he spends in jail, it will be with him the rest of his life. Also all 3 families will never be the same. Suing is for insurance and will it make anyone feel better? NO. Life can suck but one must ask for forgiveness and pay for their mistakes. 4951

eighteen : If it were my son, we would have tried to do the same thing. Not to make sure he didn't pay a price for what happened but to give him the best chance possible in a court of law. Emoticon This whole thing is making me very, very sad. 4951
