AI is getting too real
I think I have adjusted pretty well to AI being part of our daily life. But in some cases it's getting a little too real.
Last night I did an express order while on a trip of Halloween treats for a trick or treating party the hotel was holding for guests to participate in.
Most of my order arrived within 2 hours as promised and all was well. But some of the treats arrived late and after the party was over.
I chatted with the virtual assistant (that identified as such) over the phone and "she" was so realistic it was almost unsettling.
When I stated issue she said " oh wow, that's a bummer- getting Halloween treats after the party is a no-go. " then she proceeded to say things like "umm" and "uh, let me see how to handle this..", and "how was the party?". "Other than the screw up on our end, how's the rest of your day going?"
It was so weird . The voice had the cadence of a real person with pauses and inflection and even slang.
I'm okay with using AI to get things done, but I'm not interested in having a chit chat with them. I don't even want to refer to them as "him" or "her" or have AI tell me they have a name.
I realize that it is all marketing to get us feeling like they are real, but now they have me feeling like I'm rude if I don't interact or say thank you and have a good day !

Go to YouTube and put in London Halloween Parade. It is totally AI but the ideas should be copied.
teatime reacted That is the trap! Empathy for humans is good. Not so much for the clankers!
