ChesterAtkins : How did the HOA know that you replaced the fence? Do you live on a corner lot? I find it strange that the HOA is so 'well informed'.

However I just went through a similar situation with replacing the roof. I sent them what they asked for with apologies. They approved it a week later.
As to how they know is any of the fence on the side yard?

cbear : yup. It's a patio home too, so this fence is behind a brick wall up front. Whoever has an issue with it must have walked up to our gates to see the rot boards. Or maybe my neighbors behind me climbed up and looked...
ChesterAtkins : Drones...I say drones! If you want my opinion....I would just ignore it. Your stressing too hard here friend. I replaced my back fence when tropical storm Nicholas knocked it down. Yes, M & D. I have replaced all my windows, my front door and back door, taken down trees and painted the exterior and never asked "permission". Last Summer I screwed up and bought a product for my front yard to treat. Sadly, I did not have glasses on and....it was a vegatation killer! Yep, kills for 1 year. They sent me a letter and I ignored it. I told all my neighbors what happened and apologized for the appearance. All but one were very nice and understanding. The one that wasn't ...his wife was on the HOA board. Kinda figured out that he was the snitch.
Option 2 is nail a 6" rot board over the face of the 12" board. Tell them the 12" board is for hurricane resistance.

If they can see it still up to you for permission or not but they are catching things lately.

cbear : Like I said up to you if you don't get permission. You may be able to get away with it especially if nothing changes. Some get caught and some don't. Hopefully you won't.
