buffaloglenn : I think you missed the joke.
buffaloglenn : I didn't want to read any of it. I stayed off of it for days and had no interest, as I was in mourning myself and was helping the family as much as possible. However, when I spoke with Tristan's mom, she was in anguish, and it was further exacerbated by comments on this site. She expressed her sadness over the comments, so I logged on myself and read the pages and pages of bickering and animosity. I did it for Karen, as her friend and comforter, so that I could be better informed to help her through this. I now understand her grief over this more clearly, and I felt the need to respond - because that's what friends do. I don't hide behind fancy, clever usernames, and I know that I am imperfect like everyone else. But, I will stand up for a friend and defend the dead, if they are amongst those I love and care about. I hope this answers your query.
When a violent crime occurs, I think people feel safer if they can put the circumstances within the victim's control, it's a natural reaction. If a crime is random, then it can happen to anybody, if the victim is doing something risky, then that's not something that will happen to someone not engaged in that activity. All of this does not help the people left behind though. 4951
buffaloglenn : Thank you! I do acknowledge that most of the posts were very sweet and thoughtful, but the few accusatory and judgmental posts were a bit over the top. Too much, too soon. With that being said, the outpouring of love and support from the community has been amazing, and we appreciate the goodness still left in humanity. I didn't want to comment or cause a stir, or even read the thread for that matter, but I felt had to stand in defense of this heartbroken family. Regardless of the conjecture and assumptions, they are good people with kind hearts, and unless anyone has walked a day in their shoes, it is better to wave the negativity behind on this one. Thanks to all who have prayed or supported this family during their time of extreme duress.
@ForeCPA90 : I understand what you're saying. It is a defense mechanism, but when improperly applied, can be most hurtful. 😢 4951

I wish Tristan's mom had not read all of these posts. I have no doubt she will be living with "what if's" for the rest of her life.. Reading posts with accusations and blame is the worst thing she could have done. I see people judging and making assumptions based on little things they observe or hear. Yet, they have no idea. I hope they never know what it's like to watch an amazing person who they love struggle, feeling helpless to rescue them. I hope their children never make life-altering mistakes and are perfect every day of their lives. But if their kids ever mess up, I hope no one judges them and scrutinizes their parenting. Luckily there are a lot of caring people in this community to support this mom. Maybe she can focus on the kindness and put the others out of her mind. They have been in my prayers 4951
