I think it's for a show of male support in the community. There are a lot of families that do not have that.
I didnt think it weird till you mentioned men wo students there. That's a good point.

Txbutterfly : I asked my teenage daughter who is going to 7th grade how she feels about being greeted by 100 strange men on her first day. She said, pass

ZMAN : with phrasing like that, I'd pass too. I'm sure the intent was explained in the email so why not explain it to your daughter in a positive way?

We spend our children's young lives warning them about stranger danger and the school does this? Why?

ZMAN : you said you phrased it as being greeted by 100 strange men. Nowhere did it say the men were strange. That reads as negative to me.
