I know we have talked about this place before, but after today, I wouldn't bring my worst enemy to Kingwood Hospital. A friend has a sister who had a medical emergency and was taken by ambulance to KW Hospital. They weren't in the ER for very long when a doctor comes in and says he looked at her CT scan and he's pretty sure she has _______. My friend looks at him and says she didn't realize they had already done the CT scan. He tells her they did, exits the room and then comes back in and says oopsy, he has the wrong room/patient (strike one).

Next they wheel her out for her CT scan. After she leaves, two nurses come in with a gurney to take her for her CT scan. They tell her, they had just taken her, and probably passed her in the hall (strike two). While the nurses are there, one of them asks my friend, "I just want to clarify that your sister spells her name S-A-M-A-N-T-H-A", and my friend answers and says, "No, her name is Suzy" (strike three). W. T. H??? I told my friend to get her sister out of there as soon as possible!!!

**The names Samantha and Suzy are fictitious, but suffice it to say the other patient's name and my friend's sister's name are nothing alike. It's like calling a girl named Sally, "Bertha" or calling a guy named Adam, "Methuselah". 4951

Maybe it's 4 strikes. I forgot to mention, after the doctor gave his diagnosis for the "other patient" to my friend and her sister, when he left, and came back in to tell them he had the wrong patient the first time, he blurts out, "Well, this is the 2nd patient I have had with diagnosis X. It looks like today is going to be a diagnosis X day!", referencing the real patient's eventual diagnosis. Can you imagine someone, especially a doctor, being so nonchalant about a pretty serious diagnosis? What an idiot! 4951

@ExBlue:

As a nurse, this should NEVER happen. They should have checked her name band, asked her name, DOB, and used several other identifiers to make sure they had the right patient. I'm sorry this was your experience but thankfully she had someone with her who had their eye on the ball. I'd let administration know.

Welcome to socialized medicine.  U get what u don't pay for.  With all the regulations over the years, younger doctors are less educated. Spend more time with electronic records instead of patient care.  When u find a hospital where doctors who do the work get paid, let me know. MH is no better.  4951

@HollyHobby:
You think it's expensive now, wait until it's "free."

My numerous visits last year and eventual stay at KW hospital last October was great. Wonderful care and awesome service from the moment I walked in.

Last week, I was rolled in by ambulance and I received great care then. Sucks that I didn't get to see @Nurse3 on that visit. She gives the best hugs. Emoticon

I know every place has their pros and cons, and everyone has their own version of what an expectation is. It's a good place.

I hope that my two cents help. Happy Friday everyone.

When I got home from Nexcare a couple of weeks ago I had another mans patient information. His birthday, ss#, all personal info. I called them, they didn't call me back. I called the main office in another state. They said it was a red flag offense and the person handling the paperwork would be automatically fired. I didn't want them fired, I just wanted to make sure my info wasn't handed out to a different patient.

I shredded his info of course, but it could have easily ended up in the wrong hands.

It's not Kingwood hospital but it's seems they aren't the only one with these problems. 4951

@Marhopper3:

Last year I kept getting bills from a hospital in the med center for a patient that has the same name as me. They even billed my insurance several thousand dollars!! Very personal information regarding the procedures she had done there were on all of the bills. Total HIPAA violation. It took me weeks to straighten it out. I still don't know how it happened except that there was some kind of data entry error that mixed up my billing info with her chart. I called the hospital, the doctor's office, my insurance... No one wanted to take responsibility nor try to fix it for me until, after a dozen phone calls, I got a billing person on the phone that did some digging for me and found the mix up. Kingwood hospital wasn't involved in any way, shape, or form. People are just so careless these days!
