I am so mad right now.  CenterPoint has turned off my gas twice now.  The first time was because they had put in the wrong address.   They waived the reconnect fees; however still charged me for the disconnect.  Now it got shut off today and I called livid and tried to figure out why.  They said that the check had gotten returned.  First of all, I don't write checks.  Second of all when looking at the account there was no return check fee.  And there was no notice of disconnect or any notice that a payment had not gone through.  I tried to explain this to them again and again but I ended up paying 210$ for my gas service to be turned back on tomorrow.  The bill is 86.70 and the rest is bs fees that they charge.  It sucks that centerpoint ha a monopoly on gas service.  why is that?  I want to switch providers because these guys are awful.  I am scared that my gas will get shut off again next month and I will have to go through the same bs again! 4951

Been here 15 years and never had an issue. Do you have the receipt number from your bank when you paid online ( I assumed you paid on line if you didn't pay by check?)- that would be proof that the bank sent the payment- that and the fact that the money was pulled from your account.When talking to Centerpoint ( or anyone you are doing business with)- take notes - name,number, date and time you talked. Problem discussed - resolution and when the resolution is expected to take place. Then do a follow up call BEFORE the bill Is due to confirm the problem ( billing address) has been resolved. Also don't pay the bill late- if your account has been flagged  for late or non payment- people will get a little trigger happy. I always get me ebill well in advance and a reminder one week from the due date( which is rare as I pay my bills as soon as I get them). 4951

Never had a problem. Your only switch option is to get yourself a nice propane tank. 4951

I recently had a problem. Got a bill for 26 dollars. I knew that was low. Two mornings later pounding on my door. Told me checking my meter. I had a hunch.
Called automated 5 days later upped it to 66.00. No letter no explanation nothing. I just don't have the energy to argue with them. 4951

CenterPoint, if I'm not mistaken, used to be with or  is runoff of Houston Lighting & Power.  More affectionately known in the 80's as Houston Looting & Pilfering,  Had so many problems with that group.  When they get something wrong, it's on a whole different level. 4951

we should have an option with our energy provider though.  its not fair for them to have a monopoly. 4951

So..how do you see that working? Having multiple pipes from different providers all run underground?? It's not possible or desirable. We don't have an option for electricity either, all electricity is coming through centerpoint, you just have the choice of servicers. Centerpoint is responsible for maintaining it. 4951

Where are you from???? Everywhere I have lived has had one energy provider and one water provider.
Arguing never works so yea I predict they're going to flag your account. Pay it before it's due
