Has anyone heard how many kids have called in sick today?  I think at this point I would just keep my kid home if I had one going to that school.   4951

Only new update is from Fox26, not even the school has posted an update, and they're saying 219 absent today.

I am a former Humble ISD teacher, I still sub and today there were 12 unfilled teaching jobs just at  the 5 elementary schools I sub at in Kingwood. Several half day jobs were posted just about an hour ago. The jobs were not just at Woodland Hill, but other elementary campuses. Not sure if the teachers are getting sick at school. I have never seen so many unfilled sub jobs at just 5 schools. I did not want to take a chance and become exposed to what I think is  a stomach bug. When you are older you do not recover at quick as the youngsters. 4951

If they would close the school for a few days and parents would keep their kids at home, this would pass.  I think lots of people take their sick kids shopping because they have no one to take care of them.  This might be a good time for them to take advantage of shopping online and then picking up at the store.  Seems like all the stores are doing it now.  I have to feel sorry for the kids as well as the parents.  It's awful and exhausting when your kid is sick.  Prayers they all get better soon.   4951

@Kdawg:

Mine did not get it yet, but I kept her home Thurs and Friday. She buys lunch at school everyday since she decided one day she would rather do that than eat a packed lunch. Lol. I always liked a packed lunch rather than school food. 4951

Apparently of the 29 that went home on Friday, 16 were symptomatic.  ARG!  That means the kids and adults that they came in contact with could come down the the bug by Sunday. 4951

Maybe it's just time to end school for the year and let the kids have an extra long summer. 4951

I did that 4 years ago....we are still vacationing....., 😂😂😂😂

Funny thing....I honestly thought we would struggle, other than math she is actually further along and we only work 3 hours a day and take from Thanksgiving to Jan 5 off. Math has been hard but she struggled with it at school too. She is an Introvert by nature so can't say it hurt her socially, even as an Introvert she has made some close relationships and has a bit of entrepreneur blood in her.(wonder where that comes from)

But best of all....no tummy virus......😲

@Burnsway:  We have always been on vacation as mine have always been homeschooled.  It's the best!  Isn't it amazing how much they can learn in such a short time each day?  I'm sure you belong to all the homeschool groups.  We have so many activities to choose from we can't do it all. I feel that if we do not use it we will lose it so math is one subject my kids do year round.  During the summer they have to do at least 3 lessons a week.

Heart and H.O.M.E and we hang with several not affiliated with a group also. There is actually one here in cleveland that meets every Friday so will probably look into that. She also is in a homeschool girl scout troop. Yea being she is doing 6th grade now we had to remove a lot from our calendar. We followed a unschool approach till this year. Up till this year she did very little seat work about 8 hrs a week so we had more outtings.

Now before everyone gulps...unschool and no school are 2 different things. Unschool just means I allowed my elementary school child to choose and pick within reason her interest and worked her hands on no worksheets curriculum in around what she chose.

Just had to clear that up as the minute you say unschool people visualize a child on the couch eating candy and playing video games all day while mom smokes dope and drinks beer.... Emoticon

Do to this outbreak we may stay home all this week playing video games and eating candy....😂😁
