My family is looking to put my grandmother into a nursing home in the very near future. She is unable to take care of herself for the most part and she has a hard time walking. She would need skilled nurses or a caring staff readily available 24/7. Does anyone have any experience with a nursing home they would recommend preferably in the Kingwood, Humble, Porter, New Caney area?

Thankyou in advance! 4951

Are you doing self pay or reliant upon insurance to cover? 4951

Either. She does have insurance but depending on prices private pay is an option. From our experience the ones that except her insurance have not been the greatest. 4951

My Grandmother had great care and she was very happy in Oakmont, in Humble.  That was about 10 years ago thought, don't know how they are now. 4951

Hello!

Hope you're surviving all of the nasty weather!
My name is Audrey Winders and I work for Cameo Caregivers which is considered non medical homecare. Our nurses come into your loved ones home and can help with bathing/grooming, cooking/cleaning, medication reminders, laundry, transportation, (etc) and more so than not, we allow them to stay in the comforts of their own home! Just another option to consider! Along with our care, home health could also come out and provide the skilled nursing side to her level of care.

If you are considering nursing homes, I would suggest Regent Care kingwood and ask to speak with Jeanne or Humble Healthcare and ask to speak to Brittany.

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. Id love to help! 281-787-3010

I know this is a tough and very important decision.  Donna with MomsCarePlan.com is wonderful.  After you tell her what you are looking for, she will search her resources to find a place that fits your needs.  She does all the searching for you and will not send you to a place that has issues.  She will save you a ton of time and effort.  There is no charge for her services.  Good luck to you and your family.  4951

@kjshafer, the key is for family for to show up daily.  When the staff knows someone is coming daily, just not when, that person will get more attention. There are some great places locally.  And a lot of places are what you make of them.  You have to be a strong presence.  Be there and haven family there every day.  Call friends if you have to, but make sure this happens the first month for certain.  And keep it up if you can.  Even if it is a 20 min stopEmoticon

@Fallon: Your advice is very, very important. I once worked in a nursing home. Patients who were not visited were more subject to being hit, having their personal items stolen, having skin tears, being left in bed, and being kept soiled. Nursing homes are often understaffed and the work is back-breaking and dirty and resentment towards patients can run high. This is in any facility because of the nature of the work. Just imagine what the job entails. What Fallon has advised is so true. Even a 20 minute visit can save your relative a lot of grief. But keep doing it because a patient that isn't visited is left susceptible. And, don't be fooled by ratings and referrals just like for any school or daycare. Great advice, Fallon, and in my opinion the most important advice given yet.

@kjshaferMy friend, from recent experience, I can say, stay away from Park Manor in Humble.....And I very much encourage you when touring the facilities to speak directly with the Administrator, confirm if there is a Defibrillator on site, an actual staff Physician (and confirm their site schedule), are there RN's & LVN's, or strictly Aides, for each shift..... Make sure that they are adequately equipped to deal with any / all possible Medical and Health Conditions, Physical Therapy needs, and address any / all concerns up front.... 4951

I completely agree, STAY AWAY FROM PARK MANOR! My Dad was there years ago, and required IV antibiotics. They decided it was more convenient to administer them at night. Well because the process was not supervised, it took many more hours than it should have and Dad developed much more complications then he came in with. 4951

We just put my Mom-In-Law in Atria of Kingwood.  Staff are all extremely kind and caring people.  They are doing great with Mom-In-Law.  We could not be thankful enough to them. I would Highly recommend them to anyone.   4951
