@kingwooddiscgolf: Depends what kind of work you want to do. My only printer is a simple black and white laser printer. I stick with what I am good at and pay others to do what I am not.
That Hakeem billboard was created with a $5k camera, $1800 lens, $500 in wireless transmitters and $1000 in studio lights. And I had backups for all those things on hand, because do you want to waste Hakeem's time if something breaks and you don't have a backup? This stuff is expensive, but it is just the cost of running a reputable business.  4951

@photographer: Do you have screen calibration equipment, and all that for color calibration when you do print something? And just out of curiosity, who does your printing?

I dont doubt its expensive.  I still think the image gets tweaked at the printer for output. 4951

@kingwooddiscgolf: If the printer is good, they won't touch my image from how I give it. My images are printed as I send it to them.

@FoFa: We do calibrate our monitors before we work on anything we are going to send to a printer. We use about a half dozen different printers depending on what we are going to print. Through the years, we have found some are really great at some sort of prints and others are really great at other sorts of prints. Millers Lab, White House Custom Color, Houston Photo Imaging and several others fulfill our print needs. When I shot all the pictures for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, WHCC and HPI donated a lot of services, so we were very grateful for that and like giving them our business.  4951
