Can anyone tell me what the best thing to use to get rid of fleas in my yard and house is? I have tried the Seven granules and it did nothing. My poor doggies and myself are being eaten by them and need something that will really work to kill them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 4951

triazapan in the yard sprayer for hose or granuales.  I have also known regular table salt all over the house foor leave there for 2 days then vaccum up.  Make sure you change the vaccum bag if you have one.  The fleas eat the salt and explode.  Does work.  Also get the stuff from the vet for the dogs. NOTHING over the counter works not even that frontline.  Fleas have become immune to it.  Revolution is one of the best and advantage is really good too for dogs. 4951

To kill the fleas that are on the dog(s) I use Dawn dish soap. It kills the fleas. Then dust your lawn with Seven Dust. Get it at the feed store. FrontLine works well. But you have to get rid of the fleas!

Boric acid mixed with salt.  A white powder you sprinkle all over your carpets and trample it in.  Let it set overnight and vacuum the next day.  Kills fleas and the eggs. 4951

Advantage is much better to kill fleas than Frontline.  Frontline is better if you have a tick problem.  I think the vets get a nice "kick back" on selling Frontline.  That is why you see it in all the vet clinics.  I have a show kennel and we use Advantage every four weeks and never see a flea! 4951

Vets don't get "kick backs" on anything.  They set their prices just the same as any retailer.  If you don't like their prices then shop around both online and in the stores.... Walmart sells a version of Frontline and even Kroger sells it now.  I personally use Frontline or Comfortis.

@doddlebug: I agree, Advantage is the best. I don't think there is any kick back to the vets, they carry it because it's prescription only unless that has changed recently..

Put your dogs on comfortis.  It is a pill and any flea that bites them will die.  A friend who is in rescue had a bad summer so they put there dogs on this then treated the yard with some spray stuff from do it yourself bug supply in humble.  They also treated the inside of the home rotating what areas are treated weekly and vacuuming all carpets daily.  It took a couple months but she got rid of all them.  4951

All fleas were gone after awhile when we moved in (the house and yard were infested) and all we used was our normal sentinel on our dogs. You just win by attrition. It makes the fleas sterile.Yes they pick up a flea or two when they leave the yard, but no baby fleas, so no flea problem. It is just expensive. About $125 a year for the little one and $150 for the big one.I checked and my vet charges $5 more (there abouts) than a cheaper place online. And some online places charged more than my vet. 4951

Comfortis for monthly prevention, it's better than any topical hands down, no messy residue to deal with either. A couple of vets told me that frontline isn't as effective as it used to be, fleas have started becoming resistant to it.

As for the yard, I would get a bug guy. I'd also wash everything in the house that the dog sits, lies, sleeps on, and bomb the house. 4951
