"Stop" written in the sidewalk/ greenbelt holds no legal authority. It is merely a suggestion from the KSA. And guess what, the KSA has no law or ordinance making authority. The KSA paints stop on the pavement so if a person gets hit, they can make the case that they have no culpability because they told you to stop. 4951

@taramay well, maybe he can "take out" your child one of these days when ya'll go for a walk. See how absolutely vile your suggestion is now? 4951

You are right- but a good cyclist is also a defensive rider/ driver. Never known a cyclist who came out the better after getting hit. Sure I could sue for damages but I'd rather skip the damage done to my body getting hit by a car. Better safe than sorry 4951

@SeeVee:
not really. hitting a child is different than clipping an adult being a ****. 4951

@SeeVee Clearly you have a problem understanding that @taramay was just kidding & she would be horrified to hit a cyclist with her car regardless of who's "fault" it would be. I wish there was an "irony or sarcastic" font, just so where sh1t-stirrers like you would have less to complain about. Suggesting that her child should be hurt in any way is truely revolting. Hope to see ya on the road sometime soon! 4951

The law was on your side.  But do you want to drive into a person on a bike?  That you were right, by the law, would be small condolence while you're standing there staring at his broken body on the sidewalk.Defensive driving teaches that right away is given, not taken.  Sidewalks and driveways are places where people on bikes often zip in front of cars.  It's best to follow the law and to avoid an accident. 4951

@TexINS you were not doing anything any other driver wouldn't have done, the cyclist's act as though they rule the roads and I guess they think they own the sidewalks as well. That rider is probably one of those that will come up behind you on the greenbelt and not even be courteous enought to say "on your right or left" so you are aware they are approaching.  They used to do that to me and my dog all the time, and then get pissy if they startled my dog and she moved in their path.  4951

I ride my bike on the greenbelts all the time. When I do have to use the main roads I always give cars the right of way (I do the same with walking). I've lived in cities (Austin, Portland) that are full of bike riding arses who think they own the road. The way this guy reacted I bet he is from either of those places.  4951

Kingwood has a lot of people coming into it during the day working.  They are not from here, and they see a gas station and turn in.  To think, if you are on a bike, that every driver is going to give you the right away, is a dangerous way to think.   They just aren't.  It would not be worth my life to be able to say I was right, with my last breath.  Some of the bikers are so dang obnoxious.   There is one group that comes thru my neighborhood every weekend.  And they blow thru every dang stop sign.  If I were to hit one, I'd feel bad, but not awful.  I mean how stupid can you be to think you are going to "win" against a 2 ton vehicle?  It is insane.

@Fallon: A defensive driver assumes the other person isn't paying attention.  You can stamp your feet and call for the other driver (or rider) to pay attention.  But you can't control their behavior.  You can only control yours.Pay attention and remember right away is not taken, it is given.

Both the driver and the biker should pay attention...regardless of whose in the right legally or based on personal point of view.  The biker is an idiot for flipping someone off and lucky it wasn't a crazy person. 4951
