I got my dog for free from a friend.

I have had him for 6 years and I believe we have given him a good home.

Not all people who take free dogs are looking to abuse them or flip them. 4951

Then I wish he'd take one of the 52 Huskies in our adoption program, lol. Last week 5 were turned into the shelters...3 with mange so bad (lovely cheap owners) that the public thought they had been dragged behind a vehicle...bloody, bloody, bloody. We got one, Texas Sled Dog Rescue got one and Texas Husky Rescue got one. God Bless the ones we couldn't get. Our new volunteers bathing him all reared up, I am used to it, but I still tear up too.
I do really wish you luck finding them a home. Last count, there are 1.2 MILLION homeless dog's in Houston...isn't that lovely? I am so glad you didn't turn them into a Shelter...kudos for that. 4951

i personally would really like to have adopted my dog from a rescue group but the fees are crazy high...i know theres a lot of money put into each dog and for good reasons and theres really no way to lower them but it seems cheaper to go on craigslist...if the fees could somehow be lower then it would probably stop a lot of "accidental" puppies if people know they cant find them a home...yes the fee is to insure them a good home but after adding up the $250 adoption fee, the $500 pet deposit, the $200 in food, toys, collars and all that, the $150 for 1st vet visit and heartworm medicine...thats over $1000 in less then a week...that adoption fee made me turn to craigslist for my pup...it sucks that people wont take care of their pets and cause the rescue groups to out all this money causing adoption fees to go up...i personally think ALL animals should be microchipped and if a stray dog is found authorities locate that owner and fine them...that would change things real quick...except for people that dont take their pets to the vet and backyard puppies 4951

Yeah, you can get a dog off Craigslist for free or very cheap. The difference is:

1. People lie
2. You won't have their support if something goes wrong or if the dog doesn't work out.

Rescues offer support for the life of the dog.

I got my German Shepherd from Craigslist, only because there were no black shepherds in our rescue at the time I was looking. The previous owners banished her to their backyard and gave her water from a nasty cow trough. When I got her home she had an accident and her urine smelled horrible, very fishy. Took her to the vet and she had a raging UTI. The jackass owners never knew because they kept her outside!

Sometimes going the cheap route is not the best route. 4951

sounds like my neighbor...always keeping her dogs outside...when I got my last dog on CL i had no problems because i did my research...i asked for vet records, closely looked over where shed been staying and talked to the owner for about an hour...i usually go to the SPCA or a rescue but I couldnt find a tan cocker spaniel or mix female anywhere. i looked for months and finally found her on CL...shes a true cocker just with straight hair which i love because it never mats  4951

I don't wipe their butts and I don't spoon feed them, they know they are dogs Emoticon

@xjamiex:       lazy       You know they can't do it themselves.  How about a little helping hand.   ...no compassion.  Poor dogs.   Poor poor dogs.

Wow. So many people wanting to give away their pets, and I am trying to give one a forever home. I had my beagle mix for 15 years and my collie for 12. I lost them both this year.  I raised the beagle from a pup and adopted the collie from a shelter. We grew old together, and now the house seems so empty. I want a small indoor dog, but the adoption fees are so high will have to wait until after Christmas. 4951
