Er, that happens every day golf. It's called corridor rescue, barrio dog rescue, forgotten dogs of the 5th ward project, for a few examples. I've got two strays turned family pets in my house right now.
@xjamiex:   I doesnt happen everyday on a grand scale.  Rollingstone March issue #1153.

UGH!!!! a 3 day old in a swing?!  Let's see....you're in the hospital for the first two days......so, they come home with the baby, and the first thing they do is abandon it and put it in a swing, which it is way too small for in the first place.  STUPID STUPID "parents".  They should be punished by law, as that is child endangerment.
No sympathy for the parents for being so irresponsible, that poor poor baby.  Hey, I have a 1 year old, so I have been there, and it's a lot of work, and a lot of sleep deprivation, but I don't care how tired you are....you do not just leave your baby alone in a swing, regardless of whether they are 3 days old, or 3 months old, and if there is a dog, you separate the dog with baby gates at the very least!!! Do people not learn anything from hearing similar tragic stories?!  It doesn't matter if they owned a pit-bull mix, a lab, a Golden Retriever, a poodle, a Newfie, a Maltese, or whatever, a 3 day old in a swing and any kind of dog do not mix. 4951

Yeah I'm going to play it real safe and just not have kids. I like big dogs so the extra stress of dealing with a baby around them is not my cup of tea. Also, people with babies who get new puppies must be out of their G D mind.
@xjamiex: 10 years ago, when I was in my mid- 20's, I used to think the same way, I had no desire for human kids, and LOVED my 4-legged ones more than anything,  but it's very feasible to do both, as long as you are a responsible adult and have common sense, everyone can live together in peace.  I was born into a house with a Samoyed, and I don't think I ever had a moment in my childhood where dogs and cats weren't present. My sister had 2 large dogs (a husky and a 100 lb Lab) when she had both of her children, we got the Newfie when our son was 16 months old, and added the Shiba to the family when our daughter was just shy of a year old (he wasn't a puppy, he's 5, and was raised around small children and well socialized and trained).  With the use of baby gates, and being responsible by watching everyone and not allowing for a bad situation to occur, it can all be fine.  Our kids are growing up to love animals and learning to respect them; the same way that I did.  I wouldn't want to change that. 4951

Good grief. How do u know your neighbor's pit bull is aggressive? Most of them will come running towards you because they are happy and love people. If mine got out, she would run up to everybody & anybody hoping to get some attention.

Most people are fearful of pitbulls thanks to the sensationalism of the media. When I take mine out in public people are so curious because of all the negativity surrounding them. I am not afraid of pitbulls, the majority of them are wonderful dogs. There are some that are aggressive yes, but more than likely it is due to in breeding and irresponsible owners. I still stand behind this breed. 4951

With a chihuahua, I am willing to test their aggresiveness, and most of the time, they usually are. Call me ignorant, but I will not test the aggressiveness of a Pit. Whta's the difference? If a chihuahua bites me, I step on it. If a Pit bites me, I have a chance of getting killed. @shineyapples doesn't even know the owner, so you have to go with guilty until proven innocent with these guys. Sorry!
I do believe that irresponsible owners are to blame for these aggressive animals, but I do not like being around Pitbulls. I do not want my dog to be near one and I certainly would not want my kids near one. 4951

@notfromhere: it is in their breed (breed for fighting) that makes them not as social with other dogs.
How dogs react to humans is another story.Bar the one offs that are psychotic (some dogs like people are just like that) usually it is what their owner made of them. You have to admit there are just are those individuals that make them aggressive because that is what they wanted.  4951

@Fofa I agree 100%, but you never know which ones are like that and with a pitbull, I am not willing to take a chance. 4951

>> "on their character"So you have met every single pit bull in existence and they are all bad? It's your right to not own one, but pray tell, have you ever been bitten or attacked by a pit bull, have you ever been aggressively barked at or bitten by any dog, was it a pit bull?

@xjamiex: I had one charge me in my front yard.  I had to call a couple of neighbors to get them to knock on the owner's door so he could call it back home.  The owner was told the dog would be dead next time it was on our property.  Now, what if my daughter was outside that day?  Also, I overheard the owner tell the dog, "good girl"  The dog cannot even be left out in the yard because it's so vicious.  It's locked in the garage during the day.  But let's treat it like any other dog, hell no!

@ShineyApples:  people who let there dogs roam the neighborhood suck.   That owner might of said "good girl" cause the dog came when he called it?  Just a guess.

I tend to stay away from pits myself.  I know they can be trained to be great dogs but I still keep a very watchful eye on them at the park.  And if their owner seems like an idiot,  i leave right away.   4951
