Yes, he has also been attacked by a lab, a boxer, and a husky. Your point?

@xjamiex: My rottweiler mix was never dog to dog aggressive until age 1 a golden retriever off leash no owner to be found tore her a good one(on leash) before I could get my dog safe...haven't been able to get her near other dogs since...:-/ This coincidently happened in the woodland hills apartments. We lived there years ago before we moved to Willis then back here.

I personally do  not blame the dog. I blame the THUG culture that uses the Pitbull as a status symbol. Overbreeding, inbreeding and poor pet managment is the largest issue in my opinion. I have a 75lb Half Pit half (we belive mastiff or lab). He knows several voice commands, and is the biggest scaredy cat you've ever met. (He literally runs from cats). He takes food by hand and every morning I wake up nose to snout with this supposed man eater. The THUG culture that fights Pit Bulls, over breeds them, trains them to be aggressive is who is to blame. Recently we were on a walk and an off leash golden retriever attacked my supposed vicious animal that had his tail between his legs and tried to hide behind me. The Golden retriever was once called "Americas Pet" due to its nature and popularity. I agree with the other posters this is an old topic. I proudly own my THOR, he is a beautifull physical specimen and a joy to have as a part of our family. His nature is dictated more by his positive conditioning than any other factor. Regardless of the breed and size of the dog, if you cant train your dog don't have one. 4951

It all depends on how the owner trains the dog. I worked at a kennel and some of those pits were the biggest sweeties ever. One of my friends also has one that is really sweet and I take my dog to play with him. My moms little dog was attacked by a pit before too, the dog had scars all over it. Luckily I was visiting her at the time and was able to get it off of her. What I did was really dumb and I was lucky it did not attack me but I started hitting it until it left her alone. I was not thinking I just wanted to save my moms dog. She lived but had some broken ribs and a lot of cuts. We had called animal control and also wanted the owner to pay for her vet bill (after that attack it was a pretty hefty bill for my mom. When we saw the owner he was complete and total trash and said he was on probation he never paid the bill either, gave fake information too. It is people like that which cause the problems with pits. They are nice dogs as long as they do not fall into the hands of idiots like that. But I am pretty sure no matter what breed of dog those type of people have they will still be monsters.  4951

Well, I am fascinated by this breed more than any other. They are working, service & companion dogs. If you get bit by one unprovoked running loose on your street, I blame the owner 100%.

As with any large dog, you have to be cautious. They all have the potential and power to seriously injure or kill you. Anytime you approach an unknown dog there is a risk.

Pitbulls have a bad rap, it's unfortunate! 4951

I agree with the whole "thug culture" bit and I think it contributes to the public's generally negative view of the breed. 4951

The reason the pit bulls get more media coverage is because the pit bulls do more damage.

@wallacepups: Agreed, I can not understand what in the world is wrong with those people who make their dogs fight, or the ones who abuse them. Why would someone want to do such things to their pet, pets are supposed to be cared for and loved not abused for other idiots amusements. Dogs are naturally so sweet , why would anyone want to hurt something that just wants to love them.

@PedroDePacas: not necessarily....someone on here earlier said that the animal control person said that a lab that attacked someone did more damage/more serious injuries than the "Pit Bull" (that was more of a boxer looking dog) did, BUT the media only chose to report the "Pit" attack and not the lab attack (these two attacks apparently happened in the same neighborhood AND in the same week?.....)- I believe this is b/c so many people hear such horrible things about Pit Bulls than other breeds, so it is definitely BIASED.....ALSO, whenever it is a MIX breed dog that does the attack....it is always a "Pit Mix"...not a Lab Mix, or Golden Retriever Mix, etc.....they never mention the breed that the dog is mixed with. The media perpetuates this bad rap on pits - in a major way!  NOW, mind you...I am not saying there aren't bad pit bulls out there, But PERSONALLY, I have met more aggressive Labs than Pits....as a matter of fact, I used to have 2 of them (labs) that were much more aggressive/fearful of people than my 2 pit mixes.  Emoticon   SO, THERE!    EmoticonBUT, Pit Bulls def. would do more damage than those crazy Chihuahua's, but the little ones bit more people then Pits....
