Why is it that they have such a negative stigma?

@SandyKnee: Because they are the leading breed in dog attacks and inflict the most damage.

@xjamiex: the one that tops the lists for the center for disease control's 20 year study.

I looked at the link and purebred bully breeds are not listed at all. "pit bull type" = mutts so therefore mixed breeds actually account for the majority of attacks according to that report. 4951

@xjamiex: Exactly..Thats why CDC pulled the study and list it for historic purposes only..they fully admitted the study was false and useless but yet everybody keeps using it. CDC had come out  years ago and said they in no way have been able to prove any one breed is more aggressive. Obviously the haters dont wanna face the TRUE FACTS..Only False old myths and  fake facts that meet their opinion.http://www.aspcabehavior.org/articles/57/Dog-Bite-Prevention-.aspxThird, according to
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which conducted a
20-year study that listed the breeds involved in fatal attacks, there’s
currently no accurate way to identify the total number of dogs of a
particular breed and, consequently, there’s no measure to determine
which breeds are more likely to bite or kill. In fact, the CDC says its
own 20-year study is not an appropriate tool for making breed-specific
policies or legislative decisions. Instead, the CDC advocates “dangerous
dog” laws that focus on individual dogs of any breed who have shown aggressive behavior.

FROM CDC THEMSELVES!http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/Dog-Bites/dogbite-pubs.htmlSacks JJ, Sinclair L, Gilchrist J, Golab GC, Lockwood R.
Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States
between 1979 and 1998. JAVMA 2000;217:836-840.
This article lists the breeds involved in fatal attacks over 20 years.
It does not identify specific breeds that are most likely to bite or
kill, and thus is not appropriate for policy-making decisions related to
the topic. Each year, 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs. These
bites result in approximately 16 fatalities; about 0.0002 percent of the
total number of people bitten. These relatively few fatalities offer
the only available information about breeds involved in dog bites. There
is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a
particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds
are more likely to bite or kill.
Many practical alternatives to breed-specific policies exist and
hold promise for preventing dog bites. For prevention ideas and model
policies for control of dangerous dogs, please see the American
Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Task Force on Canine Aggression
and Human-Canine Interactions: 4951

@xjamiex: I wasn't posting it for you....LOL but you may wanna copy the links because they seem to get lost in the shuffle..last time I posted links to that proof when I went back to reuse in another debate it said the study had been discontinued and marked/moved to the section of the site to be used as historical data only but could never find it....LOL

We should start a grassroots group for the bullies.  We could plan get togethers where our little pitties can play to their hearts desire, lol.......we may be there all night because some bullies never get tired.I used to pet sit for one who loved the water.  I would turn the hose on and she would dive in the pool trying to get the water from the hose.  She literally flew through the air like the labs in those competitive air dog water dives.  She was amazing, never got tired of jumping in the pool. 4951

Pit Bulls: Bad Breed Or Bad Rap?LINKThe pit bull attack in Ross Township that left a man injured, and
Chihuahua barely alive, has sparked debate about the pit bull breed.
It is simply a dangerous breed. After a two-hour surgery, Gidget the Chihuahua, is able to peek at her owner, Tony Laspada.
The little dog lost a kidney, had two crushed ribs and skin ripped from her body. BUT you need to read it. 4951

"He told KDKAs Ross Guidotti at the time that out of 133 animal bites so far in the year, pit bulls were being blamed for 40 percent of them.

The next breed that comes in line after pit bulls is Labrador retrievers, said Akrie.

Its difficult to find reliable national numbers on dog bites broken down by breed.

Fieser says many times people mistakenly identify short-haired, muscular dogs as pit bulls."

Good article Emoticon 4951
