The individual mandate was put in to appease insurance companies. Since insurance companies can no longer deny coverage for pre-existing coverage, what's stopping every American from dropping their health insurance

@derp:
preposterous. Insurance companies will be limited on how high their premiums can go. Why would I pay $3,000 s year in premiums when I can just pay a $1,500 s year tax? 4951

The individual mandate was put in to appease insurance companies. Since insurance companies can no longer deny coverage for pre-existing coverage, what's stopping every American from dropping their health insurance until they get sick? The insurance companies wanted reassurance that individuals would not drop insurance in droves and just pick it up later when they need it, which would raise insurance rates for everybody. If you are too poor to pay for your own health insurance, the government will offer assistance. If you can afford health insurance but simply wish to go without it, that is fine. The individual mandate exist so when you DO want health insurance, you can take advantage of the better competetive rates that will exist thanks to healthcare reform.
Lack of health insurance is a major killer in the United States. A new study put out by the American Journal of Public Health estimates 45,000 deaths anually that can be contributed to lack of health insurance.
I am very happy that congress has been able to pass any form of healthcare reform at all. I am happy that it will offer healthcare to millions of Americans that couldn't get it in the past, and do what it can to lower exorbant insurance rates. It also allows the FDA to approve new generic drugs to keep pharmacutical costs down.
Finally something is being done with healthcare reform, which is something that republicans can't agree on if they tried.
@derp:   This isnt healthcare reform its socialist legislation.  Appease insurance companies why....because the pre existing conditions concept is designed to kill insurance providers.

Who pays for this silly crap.  Well the poor dont and the rich dont need health care insurance, they can pay cash.  If I'm a cash payer I still get fined by the government to pay for the moke who doesnt pay taxes or healthcare.  Funny but I have been doing that for years so where is the reform?  Oh yeah...now I get fined errr taxed.

The entire legislation is created to kill healthcare providers and move to a government system, the single payer system of control.

Better competitive rates really...... if we are forced to purchase insurance by law why in hell do you think rates will go down.

This is the way O operates.  He gets his socialist agenda passed in subversive ways.  And we all get to sit back and shut up and watch it happen.

O has got to go.

After the announcement yesterday by the Supreme Court, Mitt raised over 2 million dollars.  I have never donated to a political campaign, but I am now.  I will do what ever I can to make sure O is gone.

Next up on the agenda is screwing with Texas by allowing the EPA to make sure there is no more drilling or fracking here.  How can anyone who has a measurable IQ vote for O again?
@Fallon: We also need a sweeping change in Congress to get this Titanic to steer a different direction!  A simple majority in the Senate or House will not be enough.  4951

@nycoil: Amen!  We can start right here with Ted Cruz for Senate.  Dewhurst will be a disaster if he is sent to the Senate! 4951

@kingwooddiscgolf: Same place you can get your opt-out voucher for Medicare, Social Security, NASA budget, and every other piece of **** that rich folk like me don't care about.Let's not delude ourselves into thinking that a Republican president or GOP-controlled House/Senate will be the end of this.  Never has a Republican-controlled Washington rolled back government spending.  I'm not going to bet the farm that Romney, the guy who implemented ObamaCare on the state level, will be the one Republican  to buck the trend and change the system.  If Reagan couldn't do it, why is Romney our savior?  Plus, we just had a conservative Supreme Court rule in favor of ObamaCare AND against Arizona's immigration enforcement system.  That's the more worrisome part.  GOP politicians, Romney included, are no better than Democrats.  But conservative judges are supposed to be the final line of defense.  Scalia and Thomas are reliable; so is Alito.  But Chief Justice Roberts?  Seriously?  If Roberts didn't bend over backwards and rule for the liberals, this whole mess could have been averted.  I blame Obama AND Roberts.  Both can go to hell.

Fallon writes" After the announcement yesterday by the Supreme Court,Mitt raised over 2 million dollars. I have never donated to a political campaign, but I am now. I will do what ever I can to make sure O is gone."

Two things happened to me yesterday. When I checked my mail, I had a letter from Barak Obama in my mailbox asking for a contribution to the DNC. I sent the request back -in their postage paid envelope- with a few choice words along with a similar statement as you. (I have NEVER donated to a political campaign before, but I sent 4 figures to the RNC and i included the receipt in the return envelope as well.)

And if the secret service shows up on my front porch, they will get the same choice words. 4951

BTW, in his decision Roberts wrote that the penalty is both a tax and not a tax.For purposes of the anti-injunction act, which would forbid the SC from ruling, it's not a tax because Congress said it's not a tax.  If it were a tax in this respect the SC couldn't rule.  The tax hasn't yet been applied to anyone. For purposes of ruling the mandate constitutional it is a tax.  4951

I understand the Chief Justice's peculiar logic, but interpreting it as a "tax" is essentially looping a thread through a pinhole to justify an unconstitutional end.  This was a split decision where a conservative judge decided to play activist and give the liberals an enormous victory.  Virtually every conservative scholar in the country has shown that ObamaCare is unconstitutional.  But I suppose Roberts, with all of his Harvardian training, knows some truth that escaped the rest of us.

Because of him, now our last best hope resides in the very man who first implemented this system at the state-level.  Seriously?  Blech.

@school mom you have choice to not own a car or a home. You can eliminate the need for mortgage insurance when you pay off your mortgage.

This country will be miserable for the middle class, They will be working to just pay for entitilements and never to better themselves. No more vacations, no more saving for college (their kids) no more discretionary income. Just enough to get by and continue to vote for the democrats in hopes (like the lottery) they might get a little more from the government teet.

The O excuse that this tax will keep Americans from paying for the uninsured is crap. The illegals are the biggest problem in healthcare costs. They won't be paying into this program. It will go bankrupt. 4951

If we could deny healthcare to folks who don't have this program or private insurance. Maybe that could bring healthcare costs down. As long as illegals are getting "free" healthcare we have a huge problem. 4951
