What a weekend !!!
It was raining pretty hard Saturday night. when I let Mufassa (my golden) out to potty.  I thought it strange that he did not come right back in so I went out to check on him in the dark.  Thats when I heard a terrible sound , kind of screeching noise - then I see Mufassa with something in his mouth..   I being the crazy person I am started chasing him abour the yard yelling to DROP !  Well it took me 15 minutes to get him to drop what he had and come back in.  I went over to see what he had and it was so wet and dirty I could not tell for sure but it looked like a young squirrel.  I was sure it was dead...  10 min later I am watching TV and I hear it call out...OMG I am such a sucker.   I grabbed a towel, scooped it up, put it in my cat carrier and put a heating pad under it.  I was sure it would not live but I could not handle it for fear of getting bit....  The next morning I look in he carrier the critter was still totally wrapped up in the towel and was not moving so I thought surely it was dead..   I put my hand in to open the towel and there were these two big brown eyes blinking at me..   I be damned if the squirrel did not make it !!!!!   I acutully tried to set him free the next morning and he did not want any part of that..   Last night I was able to hold him and feed him a piece of apple....      I am such a SUCKER  !!!! 4951

Sucker!  LOL

I'd just take the carrier outside and leave the door open.  If you are lucky, he won't invite his squirrel friends to join him in the new condo.

Awesome. If u need to drop him at the wildlife center, there is one next to the Houston SPCA. If it is a older squirrel, and he did not try to bite u, something is wrong. Now if it's just a baby, then they typically won't bite. Keep an eye on him for a few days to make sure he's okay. They love fresh raw peanuts too. I rescued a full grown squirrel a while back who had a head injury from getting hit by a car. I contacted a squirrel rehabbed, and she was the one who told me a normal wild adult squirrel will bite. 4951

yes, he is very young.  I think he fell out of the nest in the storm.  I hand fed 3 babies after IKE several year back..   I named them  Hurr, Kane and Ike.  Have not named this one, I am waiting for a week of good weather and will turn him loose then.  He is a cute little bugger !!!   My neighbor is mad at me she said that rodent has my insulation in his belly and my wiring in his teeth !!!  Emoticon 4951

We nearly had a house fire due to squirrel damage.  You wouldn't find me encouraging them to stick around.

squirrels are just rats with bushey tails, but some people like to eat them & say they taste like chicken. I would have rescued the little guy too, can't leave any  baby in the rain to die. You did a good jb GG .... 4951

Maybe since your neighbor hates squirrels, find a safe place to release her. Do u have any neighbors who love squirrels? I have a great place to release her. My friend feeds the birds & squirrels in her backyard. It's like paradise, no dogs or cats around and she backs up to a greenbelt. Glad u helped her out. They are cute little critters. 4951

That is so nice!

Adult squirrels will bite and hard.  My dh use to have 2, Fred and Wilma, he raised them for a year and half.  THey lived in his house, and he took care of them from babies.  They use to ride in the hood of this sweatshirts.

He did set them free, Fred left and seemed happy.  Wilma stayed around the house off and on.  One day dh went to pet her and she latched onto his finger and darn near bit through it.  No idea why she did this.  It broke dh's heart since he was the one that fed and took care of her so long.
@Fallon: I know how he felt, when I raised Hurr, Kane and Rita (not IKE) they got to the point where they would bite me.  I cried, I just could nto believe that the little **&* bit me after I had hand fed him for weeks !!!  Hurt my feelings.. I think its the way they let you know its time to be set free. 4951
