I travel for a living and I can choose where to go. I don't go to Mexico anymore, but I absolutely love Bogota! I can go out by myself, stay out until dark and I always feel safe. The people are so friendly and helpful since my Spanish is pathetic. It's just like any big city...lots of people walking the streets and shopping. I hope they fix things in Mexico soon...I miss going there. 4951

@Littlegoo:  It's like the war no one wants to talk about.. you see quick news clips about some bodies being found but not much more than that... Absolutely crazy

It's all political.....Mexico still needs Americans to come down and spend their money, yet they don't want to do anything about the cartel.

The border areas are disgusting...I don't understand why anyone would want to step foot over there. Sure, the crime has spread to other parts, but the border is still the worst.

remember you are reading reported numbers which is presented by the BIASED NEWS... I think its more than 56k in Mexico,,, cant compare to Iraq, because in Iraq it was a full on military combat war.... 4951

An old friend of mine went to Mexico a little while back and had a blast!  They went to one of those all inclusive resorts in Cozumel (I think)...they didn't have any problems....  I still would NOT go to Mexico...no way.  Too scary...So many other places that I could travel to w/o such high crime/risk involved.  4951

@tomeb: no, there were many reasons as to why we were in Iraq:

1) take the fight to the terrorist in their own backyard, as opposed to having it play out on American soil especially after 9/11
2) try to set an example in that part of the world that besides Israel, democracy and capitalism CAN work if given a chance, depsite the history in that part of the world
3) we put a better infrastructure in place and it opens the door for opportunities for Americans and Amercan companies here in our country to expand operations over there ...More JOBS........
4) protects national interest for American's working over there and yes energy production, as you so eloquently pointed out........Now let me point something else out to you........

Ever heard of Madagascar ( no not the hokey disney animated movie either...) It's a country off the southeastern coast of Africa facing the Indian ocean...if anything were to ever happen over there, we would jump in  a heartbeat...know why??? Because it is where 99.9% of all vanilla beans/production are grown/harvested...you say big deal,  right? Well their are a lot of medicines that plenty of Americans depend on that derive from the extract of the vanilla bean that keep folks healthy and alive ....not to mention all the commercial applications derived from said crop!!
