Don't treat this young guy like all he was was a lowlife criminal. He's somebody's son. Remember that.
Do you know him? He was breaking into an occupied home. He was there for no other reason than criminal. That's the chance you take when you are a thug. Crime is a high risk job. Breaking into an occupied home is even a higher risk job. Looks like he didn't do much research into his "job".
Life is about choices--he made the decision that it was easier for him to "steal from others rather than work for what he wants"-- I say wants because I am sure he was not there to steal food (a need). His momma did not teach him not to steal -- he paid the ultimate price for HIS decision to steal.
How would you feel if he broke into your place and killed you love one and crippled you? I know that is not what happened but that possibility is real-- it could have gone the other way.
I'm curious about some of the details. Was the intruder armed? If not, Why the hell would you break into an occcupied home, seems stupid to the point of suicidal in Texas. Also what about the other criminal, under Texas law he could be facing muder charges no?
Your run of the mill thief will not go into a house that is occupied.
When a thief goes into a clearly occupied home, they aren't there just to rob the house. They are there to harm the occupants.
My heat and prayers go out to the homeowners. I can't imagine having to take a life, to protect my family. I would, but that is a heavy burned to live with. All because a pos thinks it is OK to steal and kill.
We're just a couple of streets over from there. DH thought he heard someone messing with our gate right before then. We are discussing getting some kind of home protection because of the way things are going lately. Between this and the HEB break-in, just not feeling as safe anymore.
@SmurfySuzi: I have had suddenlink security for 7 years. I am in the trails and heard the shot the sirens followed. It is Street in front of me.
I have never had a problem with their security system. I test it once a month.
It's 20.00 for wall pad 30 dollars for stand alone which I like. My daughter can leave for work hit quick exit gives her 2 minutes to get out and I'm safe again. I sleep a lot. I have all my windows and doors done and glass breakage in back of house. It's worth every penny and then some.
I also have my friend right beside me should the alarm go off. This alarm has never gone off due to thunder, never failed testing. If you have suddenly you can bundle and have this price. I paid 199 to have installed. For Windows and glass breakage.
@Stealth83: More importantly, where is his dad? The single biggest change the black community could make if they actually wanted to solve the problem of their young men ending up in prison, is promoting marriage and fatherhood. Unfortunately, for their leaders, there's not much money or TV appearances in a stable community.
