They'll need experts to work on this thing and NOT government employees.  They should call the people at DisneyWorld to plan and design any passenger rail system.  They did it right.
@jax: If they talked to Disney, Disney would tell them emphatically, DO NOT BUILD A MONORAIL.

The monorail line is ungodly expensive!  "The Las Vegas Monorail, which opened in 2004, cost $654 million for just 4.4 miles. It uses the same Bombardier technology as the Walt Disney World Monorail. Bombardier acquired the technology from Disney. www.yesterland.com/m onoraillegends.html

Putting the cost aside, a monorial is not flexible.

it cant change to accomodate changing crowds for certain events

it cant chance to accomdate chaning population trends

if there is an accident or inicident, the entire stretch is shut down (happens a lot on the light rail in houston)
Since Disney opened Ecpot, they have opened two more parks and downtown disney. None of which are served by monorail. All are served by busses. Busses can be rerouted on a moments notics for any number of reasons. they are cheaper to operate and cheaper to acquire. Monorail is simply a gimic. 4951

@SeeVee: Have you thought about how much revenue is brought in by Disney that they can easily afford to build more monorails?  Just like toll roads here in Houston, you can't tell me the city isn't making money off tolls from the beltway or Hardy.

Pay attention, disney hasnt built a monorail line since epcot opened in 1982. My public school education tells me that they havent expanded line in 30 years.

@jax: Once again, since 1982, they have opened two more parks and downtown disney in Disneyworld. Those areas are served by bussess not monorails. Monorails, like trains, have severe limitations. Busses are more flexible, less expensive, and can travel on existing infrastructure.

I do think there were plans for monorail extensions and stations in the new parks.  Problem is Disney isnt just theme parks but more a conglomerate of differnt companies.  Money is king and stockholders want to see profits.

Now this has nothing really to do with a viable rail system serving Houston and its outlying communities. 4951

I hope they do get rail, in San Diego we used it to go every where!! They just need to do it right. Kingwood to a Downtown station and then from there hope to another one to get where you are going. I used it everyday, never drove anywhere (most of the time) 4951
