This story is from 2010. Seeking more members, pastor drops Easter eggs from sky
For kids, blessings from the skyPastor becomes an airborne Easter bunny to add members to his church near The Woodlandshttp://www.chron.com/life/houston-belief/article/Seeking-more-members-pastor-drops-Easter-eggs-1615456.php-- excerpt --Sunday
services usually draw about 300 people to the church along Interstate
45. On Easter Sunday, the crowd topped 700. It may have been a gimmick,
but it was for a higher purpose, Woodfill said.“If
you're going to catch a fish, you have to have bait,” he explained. “If
it takes a helicopter dropping 5,000 eggs to get people to come to
church, it's worth it. There are souls to save.”Many
of these souls were new to the church, and waited patiently as Woodfill
told the biblical story of Easter before the egg drop. -- end excerpt -- 4951

Churches do plenty of mission and charity work.  I guess they're just not on Evan's schedule.  And they can't be expected to do it ALL.  What about the atheists.  Have they solved the plight of the homeless in Houston?  Have they fed all the hungry mouths in our city?   Why not??  It's easy to target any particular group, and say they have not done enough.  But the truth is, everyone, every group, does what they can.  No ONE group can do it all.

Not every group does what they can. The KKK has not done what it can, and what it does do is open to criticism. Atheists have not fed all of the mouths, we also do not accept money for helicopter egg-drops. Hypothetically, if we did though I'd join hands with my theist brothers in mocking the hell out of such irrational godless stupidity no matter how illusory and non-existent it currently is.That said, I'm not ashamed of atheist alturism: we've got the lead in Kiva.org; and, a few months ago, Atheists raised 212,000 for Doctors without Borders. But, alas you're missing the mark. This isn't to say Christians don't do good stuff. It's to say sometimes megachurches do *really* stupid stuff when they could be doing good stuff.. Perhaps Emoticonhrased like that you'll agree the criticism is fair even if you reject it for personal reasons. 4951

I totally agree with Evan. Mega churches today do very stupid stuff, like these helicopter egg hunts.

I'm not home right now. But when I get home later I'm going to pull out an interesting exert from one of Joel Osteen's earlier books. 4951

What do you mean Atheists are in the majority? We're certainly not... This was a fundraiser by one website. And, again for those reasons enumerated above I don't have to make the money or donate the money to criticize others if they waste money. 4951

What if the church brings in more money, even after the expense of the helicopter than normal due to higher turnout. Would it then be OK because they will have more money to use for charities? Its a business decision. If there was no financial benefit, it wouldn't be done. 4951

What a sad pathetic life once must have that you have to go on (at least) the boards on Easter weekend and spray your hatred. It must make you so angry that there are so many believers. He is risen indeed. 4951

Winning is not won. Call me again in 100 years. And calling my criticism hollow may be valid if your criteria for non-hollow is personally "vested." Of course I'd disagree but at least you're stating an intelligible opinion. 4951
